The quality of Champions League football is better than World Cup football. It just is.

World Cup matches tend to be dull (with exceptions of course), with under-pressure managers and players often opting not to risk too much lest they find themselves eliminated prematurely. The Champions League, with its six-match opening group stage, allows teams to play expansive football. Pressure rises in the knockout stage, but with the two-legged format, teams know they can overcome a mistake or two. The result is usually a much more exciting style of play.

In the Champions League, the finalists play six group matches and six more in the knockout stage before the final. That's a total of 13 matches spanning September through May. Under the current format, World Cup-winning teams play seven matches in about a month.

Remember the Dream Team? When Michael Jordan, Larry Bird and the rest of Team USA conquered Olympic basketball in 1992, the world had never seen anything like it. Well, actually, that's not true. Champions League teams are dream teams in their own way. They're not competing for Olympic gold and they're not all from the same country. Instead, these teams feature the best of the best from countries all over the world.

Unlike the Dream Team or any World Cup finalists, Champions League squads have played together for long periods of time—some more than others. World Cup teams, even those that reach the final, often look disjointed because the players are unaccustomed to each other. In the Champions League final, the players have been together for at least a full season, sometimes longer.

The above quote was taken from the Bleacher Report and not my opinion. It may seem bias but an argument has to be made as to why the Champions League is better than the World Cup, the same World Cup that many would consider to be the best competition and event in the world. Being champions of the world rather than a continent means a lot to some but so does winning the champions league title, which some consider being a true display of the best versus the best. This argument has been brewing for quite some time now and I want the football heads in the cheap seats to drop their opinions.

Do you feel more passionate about watching your club play in the Champions League? Or watching your National Team playing in the World Cup?

What would disappoint you more, getting knocked out in the Champions’ League group stages, or the World Cup group stages?

National team glory? Or club glory?

A poll and so that the discussion doesn't get buried. This could be pulled and most likely will be brought back up next year.

I could give a ? what some fools think. Either post your opinion about one or both of the competitions or dont even bother posting. This the cheap seats. All sports get discussed.

World Cup. My country have the opportunity to play in the biggest sporting tournament In the world. Club football/champions league is only for europeans. Nothing better seeing red white and black on the biggest stage. World Cup

I'd rather win the World Cup. Only comes once every four years and you may only ever get a single chance to play in it, let alone be in a team that is good enough to win it.

The Champions League is far more entertainin', though

I agree with the bold but I disagree with that the champions league is only for europeans. They may be clubs based in europe but these teams have a ton of players from Africa, South America, Asia, etc. The competition wouldn't be anywhere it is today and able to make an argument against the world cup if it excluded those players. And a lot of those clubs got supporters all over the world.

The best countries versus each other or the best players in the world versus each other.

For me its a tough choice.

Does happen at times. Its the fact that not all the best players in the world compete in the world cup.

I will say that the quality and excitement in the champions league is better.

A European team would win it every year. The Champions League winner usually strolls through the World Club Cup (Chelsea lost it smh)

Everyone gets hyped up when it's World Cup year and even the people who know nothing about football and never cared about beforehand crawl out the woodwork during the build-up... and then the tournament finally kicks off and you're reminded by how bad the standard of international football is. By the end of the first week you're already wishing for the final to hurry up.

Ain't nothing better than cheering for my national team. There is nothing dull about watching my team play either. It's only dull to the ones that don't like national teams to begin with.

I wouldn't say the games are dull, they are very exciting to watch. But imo the quality in the CL is better tho.

Saw Trinidad play in 2006. Idk when I'll see them play in the World Cup again. Could be a very long time and it's looking like that.

i co sign everything you mention hear. but honestly, that's truly my point, world cup bring holidays to the countries that participate, knowing they might not make it back in a long time. also, coming from Trinidad and Tobago, we grow up watching our national team play against, Jamaica, Brazil, USA, England at our stadium more frequently than club football. world cup also give each unknown countries exposure. its all about patriotism and we rep our country hard as ? . same with Jamaica\reggae boyz. world cup comes around an all you seeing yellow green and gold. Trinidad red white and black hard.
some of those countries don't even have players representing teams in the champions league.

champions league more competitive but it should be. it happens every year.

you will see me rocking my Trinidad Dwight Yorke and Russel Latapy b4 wearing dwight Manchester United and Latapy Rangers jersey by far. I bleed my country colors.

Those Nigerians rock there colors hard. the super eagles. Ghanians rock there colors hard.

My passion is with my national team. Picking club over country is like picking friends over family.

The World Cup is an event that brings billions of people together around the world to watch a sport. That in itself is an achievement not to be ignored. How hard is it to get 100 people to agree on one thing, let alone to have a billion agree that for about 4 weeks or so....soccer is awesome.

You just see the passion from fans and the heartbreak when the national team loses, nothing really like it.

The implications of the world cup or bigger but as far as watching the average WC game compaired to the average champions league give me a champions league game.

I like how in the champions league you see more offense especially if a team is behind in aggregate goals. In the world cup teams are playing to tie or not to lose and i hate that idea in sports. Im not saying not to play defense but i like offensive games where you will see at least allot more scoring chances.

And think about this does the world cup "bring the world together"? I mean you have countries against countries regions fighting against regions to get to host the next cup and animosity between countries is shown in fanbases. And a loss in the cup could make you hated in your country.

The Champions league and european soccer brings people across different countries and forces them to play together. You also have fans from asia africa and america all rooting for the same teams as european locals. Teams take trips in the offseason across the globe to meet their global fans that now that ? brings people together.
