Snake should be #3. He has more personality and 14 years of staying power over Master Chief aka Richard Simmons.
They put Larry Laffer from Leisure Suit Larry, but no Skorpian from Mortal Kombat? Ryu only at 49 is blasphemy. All SFII characters are iconic for the fighting genre. Chun Li is probably the first female character to ever have a major role in any video game (dont say that androgynous ? zelda, no one knows its a girl)
Are These The Top 50 Video Game Characters Of All Time? Guinness asked gamers to vote for the top 50 video game characters of all time, so if your favorite character is not represented in this list you probably should have voted harder.
More than 13,000 gamers cast their vote at the Guinness World Records Gamer's Edition website in order to create this list, and it ended up pretty much as one would have expected. Mario, Link, and Master Chief top the rankings, with very few surprises popping up in the remaining 47. I would not have expected Eddie Riggs from Brutal Legend to make the list, for instance, and Naruto doesn't seem like he should count.
Nintendo's penchant for creating memorable characters shines through, with 11 entries coming from the house that Mario built.
Of course Luigi is not one of those 11. Everyone hates Luigi.

Seems like Mascots got favorable treatment. Even Sonic the Hedgehog shouldnt be that high. -

Don't nobody give a ? about Tekken lol (I'm not saying it's a bad game). If any fighting game characters were to ? a top 50, they would only be from either SF or MK, but that's if they were doing a most popular list; I have no idea wtf they based that list on.

Came in expecting mario to be #1
Shadow has no business being on the list and eddie riggs (brutal legends) was only in one game -

lol nice try smart ass, but I wasn't talking about the number of people who voted, I was talking about how they determined the 50 (most popular, most iconic, etc...). If they were doing most popular, some the characters should have def. been higher, and if they were doing the most iconic, they a lot of people wouldn't have even been on the list, so the list seems pretty random.
And it was actually the 3rd sentence..... -
this list doesnt make any sense theres gaming icons like Ryu and Bowser low on the list
and then dudes like Nathan Drake (I love Uncharted)Soap" MacTavish, COD4 Nico Bellic GTA4, and Cpt Price COD4 that people dont give a ? about thats high on the list -

it's gotta be a young fan base...the new generation they really dont know about the nintendo days, sega, super nintendo ? like that because most of these characters are from the ps2-xbox generation.... -
