LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - Three Louisville men are in jail accused of plotting to make explosive devices. They are facing felony weapon of mass destruction charges. Police say Christian Leech and Jacob Walker, both 18, and 21-year-old Seth Woods were caught in the process of making explosives to use around the city.

An officer spotted the three in Miles Park off Shelbyville Road. Police say they found several bottles filled with water and toilet bowl cleaner. Strips of aluminum foil were also found rolled up. LMPD say it's all a combination that can cause a small explosion.

During a press conference, Metro Police explained the serious charge of making weapons of mass destruction.

"I know it sounds a lot worse than it is," said Sgt. Barry Denton. "I really wish it was coined differently, but if you look at it, there are different degrees of weapons of mass destruction - first degree, third degree, second degree - and that is what we're charging. That's apparently what our legislature decided to name it. But these are very common nationally by kids doing this."

On top of the weapons of mass destruction charges, Leech, Walker and Woods are charged with possessing a destructive device. Walker is also facing a drug charge for allegedly having a marijuana pipe.

According to Metro Police, kids everywhere are getting the info on building chemical bombs off the internet. But they warn that in addition to possibly getting arrested, those homemade devices are very unpredictable and dangerous.
