Personally, I don't want a diamond. If my man were to present me with a diamond ring, this would tell me that he doesn't really know me.
Bottom line, $500 IMO is not necessary and still too much to spend on a ring (engagement or not), but that's just me. Id prefer no jewelry.

I dont think that means that he doesnt know you. What about if he does it because he wants to.
Or because he just wanted to be romantic and thats the way he knows how. I dont think you would
turn it down. That would break his heart -
I'm a lavish gift giver. The woman I marry is getting a ballin' ass rang.

By all means the gesture is thoughtful and nice, I would appreciate the thought and love behind it.
What I meant is that if we have been together for that long for you to be proposing to me, then you would know that I do not support diamonds and am not into jewelry like that.
My fiance to be would know me well enough to know not to ever buy me a diamond, whether its for the engagement or not, you would know that jewels and diamonds are not my style and ultimately it would be putting money into something that just isnt important to me (the ring itself, not the thought behind it). I dont see why hundreds of dollars let alone thousands need to be put into a ring, not for myself at least. Just knowing that we are at that level means more than anything tangible.. -
She gotta accept the ring because she know, I know & we know that every kiss begins with K

why would that matter what he can afford? -
you can get nice rings for $500...

really dont matter to me...its the thought that counts.
plus i'd prefer earrings over a ring -
depends on what the ring looks like ....
-
It wouldnt matter to me. TBH Ive made it clear I dont want a ring. Put that money towards our home or something else we need.
I think its differnt for differnt women. Me personally I rarely wear anything other than earrings or bangles, I cant stand things on my fingers so im not into rings. Also the fact that I believe if your going to spend money on something it should be somethign you will get some form of enjoyment out of. I dont need a ring to remind me that he is my soon to be husband/husband. -
If that's all he could afford at the time then so be it. No I wouldn't be mad.
