I was watching an episode of The Critic, which was an old “adult”-orientated (though I didn’t fully know that at the time) cartoon show in the 90s that I used to watch as a kid, on DVD and this funny subliminal ? joke came up that gave me a double take.
The Critic: ? Joke (skip to 3:46 for the joke)
Looking back, I can’t believe that the FCC let that one slip. If I’m not mistaken, this was years before Family Guy really came on the scene so that kidn of humor was taboo then. Looking back, things like that just flew over my head because I was just a kid at the time. But then I stumbled across this old game thread:
http://forum.rpg.net/showthread.php?209313-Those-quot-I-can-t-believe-they-got-away-with-that-quot-moments.&
that really opened my eyes to all the innuendo that flew over my head when I was a kid with all these cartoon shows. I’m talking about from Rocko’s Modern Life to the Animaniacs to even Spongebob. To be honest, it’s just kind of funny now looking back on all of it. I've been told though that writers put that kind of adult humor in kid shows so that the parents and older folk that are forced to watch it with their kids can get a couple of laughs out of them too.
I looked up few of these moments:
Animaniacs - "Fingerprints" Joke (wow)
Animaniacs: "Goodnight Everybody
Transformers the Movie (1986) - Profanity
Power Puff Girls: "Nuts" Joke
PowerPuff Girls: "Developed" Joke
Spongebob Caught Watching Porn!
Rocko's Modern Life - ?
Oh, Sugar Honey Ice Tea!
Little Mermaid ?
SUBLIMINAL MESSAGES
The Critic: ? Joke (skip to 3:46 for the joke)

A couple months ago I watched a few Animaniacs episodes and noticed just how much adult humor was in that show. It made me love it even more. I think that's why I hate all of the new kids shows that're out now.

Very true, the only one that gets a pass from me is The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy90's cartoons were GOAT lol
Truth, the whole 90s were GOAT. I'm thinking about making a 90s appreciation thread but that's most likely been done to death. Bias aside, the 90s is the greatest decade of the 20th century. Specifically the late 80s and the most of the 90s. Maybe I'll make a thread and compare the 90s to the other decades and prove it decade by decade. Though I never really lived during the previous 8 decades so I know I'm a bit ignorant but still.Pretty much anything from Rocko's Modern Life. Spongebob is still walking the line with their show.
There's a few shows out there that do too, sometimes Adventure Time and The Regular Show do.

U must not watch cartoon network.... Cartoon Network throughout the day is a bunch of weird messed up shows and Ik not talking about adult swim. -
Spongebob does this on the regular. In the movie spongebob and patrick went to a bar but all they served was icecream. They pigged out and the next morning had hangovers from all the icecream lol and smh.

on animaniacs there is comentary from the makers about how they didnt know how they got away with the audult humor because alot of times it was unheard of and they pushed the limit.

even the cartoon strip was going at it
