I was watching an episode of The Critic, which was an old “adult”-orientated (though I didn’t fully know that at the time) cartoon show in the 90s that I used to watch as a kid, on DVD and this funny subliminal ? joke came up that gave me a double take.

The Critic: ? Joke (skip to 3:46 for the joke)
Looking back, I can’t believe that the FCC let that one slip. If I’m not mistaken, this was years before Family Guy really came on the scene so that kidn of humor was taboo then. Looking back, things like that just flew over my head because I was just a kid at the time. But then I stumbled across this old game thread:

that really opened my eyes to all the innuendo that flew over my head when I was a kid with all these cartoon shows. I’m talking about from Rocko’s Modern Life to the Animaniacs to even Spongebob. To be honest, it’s just kind of funny now looking back on all of it. I've been told though that writers put that kind of adult humor in kid shows so that the parents and older folk that are forced to watch it with their kids can get a couple of laughs out of them too.

I looked up few of these moments:

Animaniacs - "Fingerprints" Joke (wow)
Animaniacs: "Goodnight Everybody
Transformers the Movie (1986) - Profanity
Power Puff Girls: "Nuts" Joke
PowerPuff Girls: "Developed" Joke
Spongebob Caught Watching Porn!
Rocko's Modern Life - ?
Oh, Sugar Honey Ice Tea!
Little Mermaid ?
