Word, that album was a masterpiece.

it was a solid album but you're reaching. i'd rather listen to eardrum over distant relatives
-

It was OK...Patience, Land of Promise...Nah Mean...The songs where Damian took centre were the best ones...I thought it was a 6/7 outta 10 album
-

Distant Relatives====Sir Lucious Left Foot
IMO -
I love Distant Relatives.
A great project from the GOAT Hip Hop artist...
But that album is not seeing American Gangster -
Disagree, the album was nice, but I never felt it like others did...
My favourites of the last 5 years:
Atmosphere: When Life Gives You Lemons
Blu: Below The Heavens
CunninLynguists: ? Acres
CYNE: Evolution Fight
Eligh: Grey Crow
k-os: Joyful Rebellion
Michita: Dawning
Nujabes: Modal Soul/Metaphorical Music
Fashawn: Boy Meets World
The Roots: How I Got Over
Bolded tracks are ones I feel are better by quite some way... -
There is no way Boy Meets World is better than DR
-
It's funny how Nas will give you 3 or 4 epic songs and convince ? that a garbage album is classic
-
Classic!!!
Butttttttttt
Blu & Exile - Below the heavens
Fashawn - Boy Meets world
Atmosphere - When life gives you lemons
All Better^^^^ -

and still no grammys for Nas, smh
Grammys mean something but not everything . Curtis Mayfield didnt win a grammy. -

Reasons? Boy Meets World has better production, IMO with better lyrics. It's a coming of age album... -
Good solid album. If your a fan of genre crossovers, its a classic. Bought it off itunes and I like it

Fashawn sounds like a guy trying to imitate other artists. i dont get the feeling like he has come into his own,
say like on BTH. To be honest, other than like 3 songs, i cant even listen to that whole album without forcing thru it.
He can rap, but does not hold my attention. Kinda like some people say about Skyzoo. Excpet, he cant rap as well as Skyzoo. -
It's a great album no doubt..that has gotten slept on by a lot of ppl...and got snubbed at the grammy's IMO

Good reasons for you personally, I just disagree on that, there are like 9 tracks on that album that I'd happily bump in rotation throughout one day constantly...
These are:
Hey Young World
Stars
Life as a Shorty
The Ecology
Why?
Samsonite Man
Father
When She Calls
Boy Meets World
Who do you feel he is imitating as I would like to listen to those artists? I personally feel that the album was inspired by Illmatic. He followed the same ideas... but it was more personal than Nas' release. He consistently drops knowledge and wisdom and considering his background I think it's mad dope:Last FM wrote:Born in 1988 in Fresno, California, Fashawn grew up in a virtually parentless home. His father was incarcerated, while his mom was focused on feeding her drug addiction - a combination that caused a boy to become a man quicker than most. Placed in a group home by child services at the age of 12, Fashawn found solace in music, and began writing rhymes to escape the less than desirable hand he had been dealt so early in life.
Eventually taken in by his uncle, Fashawn spent his teenage years calling First & Shields Ave in Fresno, California his home. Here is where he would find skating, the distractions of the streets, and the pursuance of his music career to be more rewarding than school. Yet, he had a constant thirst for knowledge that extended beyond the streets, so he became an avid reader with an affinity towards non-fiction and motivational books.
That's why I feel that it's on another level and tracks like Father (about ? ) really resonate with me...
You don't feel BTH is as good either?
I guess it's just a different taste, but I feel Distant Relatives isn't top 3 Nas... Illmatic, Stillmatic and Lost Tapes >> DR, IMO.

Also, Exile is incredible as a producer. -
I agree with this thread. There was no album like that before. A genuine fusion of two genres crowned by 1st class lyricism and message.

Modal Soul is the greatest album of the 2000 decade

Bold statement, but an arguable one...
I can never decide between Modal Soul and Metaphorical Music as my favourite Nujabes release... his First and Second Collection's are really nice too... but in all honesty, I've listened to this album and quite a few other Japanese releases just as much...
You should check out The Essence Playlist I did called Japanese Joy, it's filled with Japanese instrumentals that aren't by Nujabes :tu -
Ya I downloaded that a minute ago. It's pretty good.
