The story behind this classic west coast staple is legendary. Drug dealer Eric Eazy E Wright up put up the money for a record label RUTHLESS RECORDS and Compton DJ local hero Dr Dre formerly of the World Class Wrecking Cru laid down the beats. It was written by a 16 year old Ice Cube. They recruited a NY rap group named HBO to do the track but they rejected it. They didn’t think it was very good and it spoke about things they felt they couldnt relate to so they refused to do the record.

On a dare Dre convinced Eazy to do it, and it was an instant hit. The New York market was not ready for these type of once upon a time in the hood stories but the rest of the country loved it. talk about 64 Impalas, Guns, Slanging Rocks, Police Brutality, Gang warfare, that 808 Bass Drum and ni99az rocking jheri curls (and didnt give them up until around 1994) Rap would never be the same again!

Boyz will celebrate its 25th anniversary next year and its the 20th Anniversary of the FILM starring Ice Cube, Nia Long, Morris Chestnut, Cuba Gooding Jr, Laurence Fishburne, Angela Bassett, and Regina King (the voices of Huey and Riley from the boondocks)

With the exception of the jheri curls modern day rappers are still talking about the same stuff mentioned above!! Jeezy, Rick Ross. T.I, Jay-Z have talked extensively about the Drug game

RIP to Eazy E (1963-1995)
