Just got finish watching the Documentary BLACK IN LATIN AMERICA by Henry Louis Gates Jr, the brother and Black Intellect from Harvard who found out that his Doctorate dont mean ? and he still a ? to the white establishment; when he almost got his ass kicked and shoot to death by trying to enter his own home by the Police.
But the Documentary is real good touching on the descendants of slaves who are still facing hard times in Latin America, these hebrew men and women are facing racism and some a racial identity.
And there are some brother and sisters in mexico that have there own black community and consider themselves black, and what got me is that for every latin country including mexico that got their independence from Spain it was black african slaves at the forefront and when they free the latin countries from spain rule, they still face racism.
The series focus on Mexico, Cuba, Haiti and Dominican Republic, Peru and Brazil.
This series change my whole look on AFRO LATINO'S because there was a time (for the few that i met) i seen these brothers that look like me, have the same color of skin, same hair and black hebrew blood but they act like they was better than black and didnt even consider themselves black. So i was like ? THEM. Because if a Afro Latino was getting jumped by some other race you can bet you bottom dollar that a Black Man will come to their aide but if it was a black man getting jump the majority of the time they will stay out of it.
But this series showed that their are some brothers and sisters in Latin America that except and proud and love their blackness.
So if there is any AFRO LATINO AND BROTHERS please talk on this and tell your experience of being a Black Latino.

Thanks alot bruh, it show's the truth and what our people going through in Latin America they came on the same slave ships as us and are Hebrews, and some are waking up. This is a great documentary, and i will be ordering it off of Amazon. -

Thanks for this!! I saw the brazil section and wanted to see the other parts and they never came back on.
It's crazy how brazil had so many black people that they actually brought promoted European immigration just to lighten the population.
It's also weird how their racism works. The country seems to like the diversity that the African heritage brings but they don't particularly like the black people. -

When I go to the D.R., the press in Santo Domingo always asks, "¿Qué te consideras, dominicana o americana?" (What do you consider yourself, Dominican or American?) I don't understand it, and it's the same people asking the same question. So I say, time and time again, "Yo soy una mujer negra." ("I am a black woman.") [They go,] "Oh, no, tú eres trigueñita." ("Oh no, you are 'dark skinned'") I'm like, "No! Let's get it straight, yo soy una mujer negra." ("I am a black woman.")
Her father is of Dominican descent; her mother is Puerto Rican. -

This sounds interesting but I'd like to see a documentary about Blacks in the Middle East. Everyone knows about the Atlantic slave trade but for centuries (especially throughout the 1800s) Arab and Swahili traders purchased (most of them were purchased, some kidnapped) slaves from local East/Central/Southern African people and brought them to the Middle East, a small amount were even taken to India where their descendants (the Siddi people) still live. In some ways, it might have been even worse than Western slavery (males were normally castrated).

To latin folks darkskinned black person=black. Everyone else is mixed with black.
Plain and simple.
There is no real sense of afro centrism or pan africanism amongs the overwhelming majority of "afro-latin" peoples.Youll probably only see it Cuba,Brazil and certain cities in Panama/Colombia.
Zoe Saldana used to say she was not even Dominican but Dominican-AMERICAN and we got ? so she started saying she was Dominicana "de pura cepa" (slang term meaning straight uncut Dominican).Shes lying she just want them african american roles ? she can rarley play a latina. -

Mexico=Black is black to them,Argentines are hostile towards all blacks.The carribean and southamerican carribean coasts you will find people rerffering to black as "brown"(moreno/indio) or by different complexions and this becomes their race,correct..BUT to the vast majority of "afro-latinos" and (latinos in general,again depending where you are) a person is only black when they are darkskinned..
Example:Tyrese calling himself "brown" will get laughed out the club.Someone like Game or Nas will be "moreno claro" light brown and its NOT the same as being called black..again depends where you are.. -

^This depends with black latin folks as well..there are exceptions.Like if you are a person of wealth,or highly educated or come from a good family."persona de sociedad" ....meaning basically u have a good pedigree.If youre just flatout attractive to people you'll be aight.
But yea darskinned people are usually rejected in L.america even among afro-latinos.. -
