J. Edgar Trailer Online
Even great men can be corrupted
20 September 2011 | Written by James White | Source: Apple
Clint Eastwood’s back with his annual Oscar bait prestige film, this time featuring Leonardo DiCaprio as controversial lawman J. Edgar Hoover. And now the first trailer has arrived over at Apple.
With a script by Milk's Dustin Lance Black, J. Edgar explores Hoover’s conflicted public and private life, from his strict upbringing with a nurturing yet pushy mother (Judi Dench) to his appointment as America’s top law keeper, including his role in founding and running the FBI. Hoover quickly became the face of US law enforcement, winning both friends and enemies while pushing crime-fighting techniques forward and recruiting people to his side. Those included trusted right hand man Clyde Tolson (Armie Hammer) and loyal secretary Helen Grandy (Naomi Watts).
But Hoover was also a mass of contradictions, the keeper of many secrets who let the idea of absolute power go to his head and corrupt him. He became paranoid and controlling, abusing what he knew about some of the country’s most powerful people – even up to and including the Kennedy clan – to push his agenda and beliefs.
Eastwood has gathered his usual killer cast including a bevy of character stalwarts including Stephen Root, Jeffrey Donovan, Dermot Mulroney and Zach Grenier. Can it match up to his usual standards? Will DiCaprio pull off a demanding role that sees him age through decades? We’ll see when J. Edgar arrives on January 20 next year.

Two Terrifying J. Edgar Posters
DiCaprio gets snarly for Eastwood
07 October 2011 | Written by Helen O'Hara | Source: Warner Bros.
Leonardo DiCaprio: handsome man, environmental advocate, Hollywood star, boyfriend of insanely beautiful women. And, it appears, ugly scary shouty man, at least onscreen in Clint Eastwood's J.Edgar.
The film is the story of J. Edgar Hoover (DiCaprio, of course), the first head of the FBI (from its foundation in 1935 until his death in 1972) and an enormously powerful figure thanks to his files on every major political player in the world. On one hand, he built the FBI into an effective crime-fighting agency and gave the Bureau its character; on the other, he compiled secret files through illegal means and harassed political dissenters and activists.
By the looks of everything we've seen so far, this could be another Oscar-baiting role for DiCaprio - but can he finally take home the little golden boy? He is, after all, still under 40, and statistically will have to wait another 7 years to be at optimal Oscar-winning age, but surely the Academy can only ignore someone this good for so long. Right?
J. Edgar is out in the UK on January 20, 2012. It also stars Naomi Watts, Josh Lucas, Arnie Hammer, Judi Dench and Ken Howard, and was written by Milk's Dustin Lance Black.
