This full-length documentary chronicles a lost story from New York City's forgotten borough. It documents the life and creative work of Shyheim Franklin, a hip-hop artist who attained fame and success as a teenager and then ran full speed into the stark realities of the music industry, the criminal justice system and life on the financial margins of American society. By telling Shyheim's story, including his present day efforts to turn his life, career and community around, the film will explore the rise and fall of hip-hop, as well as humanize the struggles facing inner-city communities such as Staten Island's notorious Stapleton Housing Projects, which both nurtured and held Shyheim back.
