Sooner or later, it would seem, every action hero type ends up doing one particular type of film, and it rarely ends well for them. Yes, we’re talking about the Hard Nut Protects A Kid genre. And the target this time is Jason Statham, who goes all guns blazing in Safe. Take a look at the trailer below.
Safe finds El Statho as Luke Wright, a cop-turned cage fighter in New York who is forced to scrape a living scrapping after the Russian Mafia murder his family and banish him to a shadowy existence. But then he spots a 12-year-old Chinese girl named Mei being chased on the subway by the same gangsters who offed his wife. Upon saving her, he discovers she’s more than she appears – her talented noggin holds code secrets that were part of her life as a “counter” for the Triads. Soon both sets of mobsters and a pack of corrupt cops are on their tail. So guess what Wright does? If you said he opens a little bakery that specialises in cream buns, you guessed wrong…
Yes, it looks like a pretty standard chase/fight flick, which should please anyone who enjoys watching JS kick butt. Produced by Quentin Tarantino’s regular compadre Lawrence ? , it was written and directed by Boaz Yakin. Safe will be out on March 2, 2012.
