The Violence of the Bible...Why Is It There?

It is very obvious that the Bible doesn't read like a book of love, peace, and happiness. ? is showing His Anger here and there and is either bringing wrath upon those He condemns or calling His People to carry out His Will. A question that I don't think most of us ask is why is all this stuff there in the first place? Why write a book as such that it includes violence? It could of just been written as a self-help, theraputic guide that makes everyone feel warm and fuzzy inside but it wasn't.

I think it's funny that most people automatically think ? cannot be angry and have wrath and if he does, well then he cannot be this loving ? .
His love in the bible shows much more greater than his anger, people just need to understand to read and let it marinate. -
Because the people who wrote it and thought it up knew fear was the strongest emotion to man. As long as they were able to invoke fear into people they would have control on the majority because very few people fear nothing. To a parent a kid is the most sacred thing to them, so how do you get people to chill on that side, tell them if they ? up Gods is gonna ? your newborns. People are always scared of it all ending, how do you keep the fear? Tell them eventually the world will end, and you will die a very harsh painful death that is unless you follow our book word for word then you will get a pass and get spared. Its nothing new really, since the beginning of time until now powerful people have used fear alongside deception to control large groups of people.

But can you truly say that when the Bible was written, that it was done so with the intentions of provoking fear? What does that say to those who read the Bible and are not left trying to hide in fear of their lives? You can't say that everyone who believes in the Bible ends up adopting the violent nature or that a "Christian" has this right to violence. ? or no ? , violence would still exist. -

People who take the bibal seriously fear ? , dont give me that. If they didnt fear ? they wouldnt really be a christian. And yes the bible was written with an agenda. Who said anything about every christian adopting the violent side? You are trying to make something else I never said anything about it making every reader violent or that they had a right to violence. The OT and the NT have both led to Christian invasions to take over land though so yes it was a recruiting tool and they used fear as the prime tool. -

Life isn't warm and fuzzy. It is violent sometimes. Internal turmoil leads to external.
Just because there is violence in the Bible doesn't necessary make it invalid.

Well, who are you to say who takes the Bible seriously or not? Who are you to say what "fear" looks like in respect to ? ? You are assuming that anybody who takes the Bible seriously automatically adopts this moralistic view of ? that you set forth. You are also assuming everyone that does violence "in the name of ? " is actually doing so. Unless you claim to have a truth that no one has, then you don't have that right. -

People dont fear sin because its bad, they fear it because of the consiquences set forth by ? , and you can tell those who take it seriously and those who just your average christian, their are levels of seriousness. If somone kills an abortion doctor because he feels its killing gods creation its in the name of ? , if people invade land and ? because a rock is holy that is done in gods name, if someone enslaves millions cause the bible says so its in gods name, if someone tries to exterminate a whole race because their religious book tells them the next mans race, religion, or world views is wrong thats done in the name of ? .

You are suggesting that you know what a Christian should or shouldn't believe. I would say that if all there is to Christianity is a relentless pursuit for morality, then I would have to agree with you...but it is not. Yes there are consequences for wrongdoing, but sin is not limited to the thoughts and actions of man. It also deals with the condition in which these thoughts and action comes from; how ? sees man regardless of what is or is not done. There is nothing that a religious or non-religious person can do to earn ? 's Favor...though that is what people are led to think; that ? is going to see if we've earned His Favor. If you get a poster threatening you with "Hell", I'm willing to bet they think they got more right over you to go to Heaven. They are just as Hellbound as the one who is indulging in wrongdoing. -
Because humans saw nothing wrong with their behavior like that back in the day, and for the most part, still don't.
