M.I.A. has shared her thoughts on the difference between Jay-Z and Nas in a recent interview.

The rapper/singer explained that both of the rap stars took different routes to success.

She told Complex Magazine: "Jay became the biggest representation of rap music who's still alive, started dating Beyoncé, everything was so much bigger and better with Jay-Z. I hope people don't think that that wins.

"The fact that Nas didn't become all this sort of stuff changes people's perception about the music and the work he achieved in his lifetime. I don't wanna say Jay-Z sold out, but I just feel like we have to wait another 10 years to see what happens.

“Jay-Z's ambition was to become like Frank Sinatra, a household name all over the planet, and own a casino in Vegas and stuff like that. And I think Nas was really sticking to knowledge. I still think the biggest point about hip-hop is in there somewhere, what happens to those two artists."

Personally, I think Jay-Z SOLD OUT!! Yeah yeah, he's the the no.1 torch bearer but I just can't help but think that he could have done so much more than just wear suits and have breakfast with billionaires... Discuss.

done so much more like what?
does it matter what you or m.i.a. thinks?
that ? has provided a life for his family that few people will ever experience
what else is there to be done?
    save the world?
    why?

Her(?) point is that image (swag, as the ? call it) is more important to some hip-hop fans than the actual music.

This chick sure has alot of opinions about everybody for some reason......I liked that violent lil video, for the song I cant remember the name of, but only time I ever hear this chicks name is when she's talking bout somebody else, she was complaining about Lady Gaga one week, Rhianna the next week, now she's speaking on Hip Hop like some kind of Expert.......Maybe next week she'll review the new AC/DC record for us, cause Metal fans are just dying to know how many stars she gave it

Okay Jay is taking hip hop to massive levels dining with billioniares, owning clubs & NBA franchises, and selling out everywhere in the country and he SOLD OUT????? I swear some you muthafuckas are to small minded to achieve anything in life. Why not go for it all if i have the ability to achieve isn't that the main goal in life? I'm not knocking Nas in anyway for choosing to drop educate the masses everybody is not the same and our hustles aren't either. But at the end of the day is all about achieving your goals and I say both are successfully doin that. Props to both!!!!

Cosign, I'm not a Jay-Z fan but he has done alot for hip hop in terms of it's image, I mean who would have thought a rapper could go from dropping albums to owning NBA teams?

She's got a habit of talking contradictions and chatting ? . As much as I like her albums you do get the impression all the stuff she talks about about is a muddled and hollow contradiction. You do realize she's also married to a millionaire

Edit: On another note, what she said about Lady Gaga and her image not even matching her music which is just 90s Dance music is correct

Yet M.I.A. lent her vocals to HIS song and perfomed HIS song on an award show.
Yet she sticks her face on various magazines and uses her songs for Honda commercials, which totally goes against her so called belief of resisting the status quo.

I can never take what this chick says seriously. She talks just for the sake of making noise and she constantly contradicts herself. Jay-Z was never the type of rapper Nas was anyways.

She is right about the bolded, though.

Biggest doesn't always mean better. And just because Jay continues to commercialize hip hop and make it a hot commodity in mainstream arenas, doesn't give the genre as much credibility as it does water it down.
