My brother and I have been trying to see Tokyo for a minute. I'm trying to see of anyone on this board has been there. If so, where are some good hotels to stay at, and what are some good spots to hit up? How was the vibe? Let me know...

    DON'T GO.

I went there about 6 years ago. Which part of Tokyo will you be staying at? Tokyo as a whole is not the dynamic city it once was. In fact it looks downright dated compared to Shanghai. Went to Shanghai 2 years ago and that city's nightlife scene, shopping districts, and look > Tokyo. In fact I would put Shanghai against any modern metropolis in the world. Capital cities reflect their national standing. Japan has been mired in depressing growth after their tech, housing, and banking bubbles burst in the early 90s (despite Japan engaging in one of the largest public works spending bonanzas in modern history, 1.5 trillion worth).

Shanghai got clubs, raves, bars that are huge and that city has a huge girl to guy ratio.

also forgot to mention that Tokyo is EXPENSIVE as ? . More expensive than NYC I found. If you want to save money, there are budget hotels around Asakusa. But heed my warning, Tokyo and Japan itself have fallen on hard times. The lost decade" is reflected on the streets of Tokyo. Go to Shanghai instead. Probably the most dynamic city in the world right now...

dont listen to these dudes.....tokyo is off the chain...so is shanghai...but tokyo is more excepting to black people and in shanghai you are more like people are seeing a bigfoot or the lochness monster since they diont see black people alot.

also dont listen to anyone tell you the ? is expenisive....the reason alot of people say that is because they travel to places an try to live like a rockstar. if you stay in a mid level hotel, get a JR pass and eat at the local spots....you will see that it is not exepnsive. trust me...i go to tokyo every year for business and i stay at the nishi shinjuku hotel. Make sure you go to an onsen....that ? is amazing...its like sittin in a hot cup of tea. just take your time gettin out...you may pass out...lol

PM me I can give you addresses and help with the JR pass

Nah simply not true. The number of expatriates living in Shanghai is huge and I've actually seen more Americans (including blacks) during my stay there than in Tokyo. Difference is, you can live like a rockstar in Shanghai but to do so in Tokyo, you will need to sell your firstborn. Only thing that is disturbing is that everybody and their grandma be drinking that Black Label up in the karaoke and clubs in Shanghai.

I love traveling. Wished I did more. I've been to Taipei, HCMC, Hue, Tokyo, Macau, Beijing, HK, Shanghai. Don't get me wrong Tokyo is still a good city, but I just can't put my finger on it, it's def not as inviting as I thought it would be. And I've seen ? with some outrageous looking goth/emo ? that's just plain turn off. Not once in Shanghai did I run into any broad that looked like she came out of a anime convention. I've been to Shanghai twice and stayed around Changning. Tbh though, I love ? like Vegas so Macau was probably my highlight. They already have the revenue surpassing Vegas by almost 2x but they need more mega casinos and clubs. I imagine Macau will be the nightlife destination in all of Asia within a decade.

I've never been to any other city in Japan nor Singapore or Seoul. If anyone's been to those places and give me insight, please do!
