on boycotting bp...

so i know there are going to be conspiracy theorists who say it's all a big scam to make you eat pig ham...but
watching cnn over the weekend...
with all of the rhetoric about boycotting bp, cnn was saying that
1. the people in the gulf DONT want people to boycott bp, because bp needs to survive in order to pay what they owe
2. bp gas stations are no longer owned by bp, so boycotting the gas station means withholding income from american (?) gas station owners
3. it really has a minute effect on taking a real stand since petroleum is in so many products, plastics, waxes, hair care products, etc.
screw bp. but, any thoughts on this?
