Because she cheated in the 1940's and he just now found out...apparently she kept the letters for over 50 years from her lover and he just now found them....

A 99-year-old Italian man is divorcing his 96-year-old wife after discovering that she conducted an affair in the 1940s, reports the Telegraph.
The couple have been together for 77 years, but time was no healer when the husband, referred to by Italian lawyers as Antonio C, found evidence of the affair while rummaging through a chest of drawers. Having confronted his wife, who confessed to the affair, he is now seeking a divorce.
According to UPI, Antonio came across letters his wife had received from an old lover more than 50 years ago, making him suspect an affair. It is also reported that the couple have five children and 12 grandchildren along with a single great grandchild.

Dude did the right thing. One might say for 77 years she's still been with him. But for 77 years she's hidden that secret. And like it's been mentioned, she saved them ? . That outside ? has occupied a part of her mind all these years. And ain't no telling how detailed and traitorest those letters might have read. How intense the burn of his soul might have felt. For 77 years.... wow.... what can a Dr. Phil really tell a guy like that at this point.

That's why Id' be so ? off, even after 77 yrs you couldn't confess? All those years you thought you knew every look they could have..... but apparently didn't because they hid an affair.
She's got to have kept those letters because she felt guilty, maybe so guilty especially after the years dragged on and on, that she couldn't even confess it outright and just lay in wait to be caught.
After 77 yrs, divorce might be the only choice, like really, 77yrs??? -
