For Wall Street Occupiers or other decriers of the “social injustice” of college tuition, here’s a curveball bound to scramble your worldview: a totally free college education regardless of your academic performance or background. The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (M.I.T.) will announce on Monday that they intend to launch an online learning initiative called M.I.T.x,which will offer the online teaching of M.I.T. courses free of charge to anyone in the world
The program will not allow students to earn an M.I.T. degree. Instead, those who are able to exhibit a mastery of the subjects taught on the platform will receive an official certificate of completion. The certificate will obviously not carry the weight of a traditional M.I.T. diploma, but it will provide an incentive to finish the online material. According to the New York Times, in order to prevent confusion, the certificate will be a credential bearing the distinct name of a new not-for-profit body that will be created within M.I.T.
them ? at Devry and other state universitys are hella heated about this I HEARD

"Ey bruh, I KNOW you know quantum physics, but you need a bachelor degree, slime."
Yeah, ? that. I'd do it for myself. But unless ? accepting the degrees as a BA or a BS, ? that ? . -

unless you a legacy, MIT is one of the toughest schools in the country to get into..high 2300s SAT (or perfect scores), scores of 5 on APs, tons of ECs, placing in the Mathematical Olympiad. Harvard and MIT constantly be rejecting valedictorians since there's only a certain amount of space lol.
But knowledge is always good regardless if you pursuing a degree or not. -
Don't really see how that differs from the old ? .
Either way, I planned to use that ? to prep for graduate school. -

they should allow you, to take the exams straight away if you have completed this. that would be a game changer
-

Its good overall, except for no degree part. how will this make money? Imagine your going for a job: I see you got online diploma from M.I.T but I feel your not qualified. lol

Don't Harvard have this ? ? I remember they said HIllary Duff was in Harvard and I was like "? ....."
-
If employers don't acknowledge the credentials, a online MIT diploma would be useless. It just would be "how smart" or "can I learn this" type of thing. How will MIT make money off of this?
thats the point they not trying to make money and you still get a certificate. -

Why get hired?
This knowledge can help a person start their own buisness.
Who the hell is gonna patronize your business with no experience and no network? ? , get a job and THEN start a business. -

Lmaooooo
Um I think it's a bridge to a accredited uni
Kind of like a light weight community college, it has the potential to encourage people to go into those fields
It's more of a stepping stone
But I can see people trying stunt like they have a degree from MIT though -
so the only thing seperating a degree from the certificate is tuition??
I was smart enough to earn a degree from MIT but I wasnt rich enough to pay for it so they gave me this certificate. -
Lol..I already watch MIT lectures on youtube....I dont understand why ppl wasn't taking advantage of that b4????
But yeah, this is great.
