Nintendo Reportedly Has 812.8 Billion Yen in the Bank
Posted Tue, 13 Mar 2012 | 14:00 GMT by Thomas Whitehead

Plenty of this to spend
Steak dinners are on Satoru Iwata

It's well known that Nintendo is set to announce losses for this financial year, with its latest projections from earlier this year predicting a loss of 45,000 million Yen. While that may seem like a grim statistic, a feature in UK magazine Nintendo Gamer has sifted through Nintendo's bank accounts and found an extraordinary nest egg, details below.
Buried in reams of financial data is the revelation that Nintendo have 812.8 billion Yen (£6.7/$10.5 billion) in the bank - enough for it to take a 20 billion Yen loss (£163/$257 million) every year until 2052. Then there's almost 469 billion Yen (£3.8/$6.0 billion) held in premises, equipment and investments. When that runs out - we're in the year 2075 by this point - they've got some of the most valuable intellectual property in gaming to sell off before the company goes out of business.
Assuming that the data has been interpreted correctly, and considering the fact that Nintendo's overall loss this year will be the first in its history, that's an impressive bank balance. With 3DS sales showing improvement and Wii U on the horizon, it looks like Nintendo has the assets to push for success.

16 billion...just in free cash. Their warchest. Look at that chart. Even through the Nintendo 64 and Gamecube era, Nintendo was still cakin...even more than Sony.

If Nintendo is doomed then so is the entire video game industry.

lol and they've lost me since the N64

future looks bright for the gaming industry in general, it's a ever growing market(10% each year if I'm correct), upcoming nations like China don't even have a console game market yet...Nintendo probably gonna outlive all of us lol

Same was said about Sony which was ? .None of these companies are DOOMED since they are all billionaires.Only ? ass fanboys care about who makes or has more money then who. When they start cutting you a check then you can worry about their sales. The rest of us will worry about what actually matters ...GASP the games. The Wii is trash, but we all know it made tons of money so no need to get your thong twisted focus.

It's easy to make money when you do not spend money on developing new hardware or software, but yo tell me how I can get down with investing in Nintendo? How does that whole thing work,do you get paid? How much do you get? I need some of that 3DS money asap. Also playing it safe and innovative are worlds apart.I will take quality and high tech over innovation any day.i don't get why people make excuses for Nintendo failing to make good consoles since the SNES as if their success changes the facts.Comparing them to Disney is far fetched as Mickey Mouse is not really the face of Disney anymore movie wise as Disney actually has started NEW franchises unlike Nintendo. The Power Glove and Wii have neither did anything special, but that's a whole different convo so put me on to that investment ? .

Sega failed b/c they were developing new products faster than there developers and customers could keep up. In the md-late 90s ppl once said that Nintendo fell behind Sega..... until Sega filed for bankruptcy (reorganization which led to a terrible merger in 2001).... kinda interesting how history replays.... Sony lost 4.4 billion dollars & hasnt made a profit in 4 years.... coincidentally Sega had the same problem not turning a profit in 5 before going out of business.... The Japanese were smart, they avoided console wars with the Americans and new of Sega's financial troubles b4 the market did. It was all just a matter of time from there....

Bad management, tooo much debt and releasing products faster than the market & its own developers to keep up with killed Sega. Nintendo is one of the most innovative companies in the world and has always played the game smart. Today Nintendo makes up for 53% of the market share (61% if you add handhelds) of the video game market with Sony & Microsoft fighting for scraps.....

So who publishes Sonic games these days?

Oh and why do people keep comparing Sony's finance to Nintendo's? Sony's loses comes from their electronics division which makes Sony a bigger company than Nintendo which means that they are more likely to suffer bigger loses and smaller gain on merchandise.Nintendo only has two products to worry about while Sony has 4 gaming hardware still on the market and tons of electronics including TVs and computers.Nintendo better see a bigger profit with only the Wii and 3DS currently their main products.Just wanted to throw some logic into this pointless thread.

So who publishes Sonic games these days?

Sega Sammy and sometimes Nintendo (when they do joint ventures or have portions of their 3rd party design teams working in conjunction with Sega Sammy's) publish Sonic games.

When Sega folded a company called Sammy Corporation came in and offered to do a merger. Originally tho, Sega crawled to Nintendo and asked them to buy them out. Thing is... Nintendo ONLY had an interest in buying the Sonic franchise and some of their develop/graphic companies. For Nintendo they said the hell with Phantasy Star and all the other brands under Sega. As embarrassing as it was for Sega to even ask Nintendo to buy them, Nintendo declined on their second offer and instead would rather see them go out of business. Fortunately for Sega the Sammy Corporation took a huge risk and offered to do a merger with them that would see the Sammy Corporation inject lots of cash to rekindle Sega. Later on Sega merged and became the Sega Sammy Corporation. Thats why Sammy Corp is so involved with Sonic and other related games.

Ever since then Sega has remained a small player in the gaming industry, more intent on doing licensing deals to sell Sonic's name to whoever will help finance a game. But dont be surprised if Microsoft buys the Sonic franchise, they already bought Rare and the rights to Killer Instinct from Nintendo. Microsoft has been on an aggressive move to buy and create franchises cuz thats the only thing they lack for their gaming divison. They need something that can cross over to not just adults but all walks of life too.

SEGA and Sonic Team won't do that cause Those Mario and Sonic Olympic games sell too damn much on Nintendo consoles and handhelds. And Sonic naturally belongs on a Nintendo system.

You'd have to create a brokerage account with your local bank or a stock brokerage firm (like Interactive Brokers, Questrade, Etrade, etc.) and from there you'd be able to buy stocks.

I ain't gonna take up space and quote the whole thing but that was a trill ? post, keep droppin that knowledge man

Goldeneye HD is not an option because of the rights being split between Nintendo, Activision, and M$. Most of the people who made Rare great left years and years ago. Right when M$ brought them, so its not the same team at all.
