Do you prefer original/ obscure beats or well known classic beats on a rapper's mixtape?

I have a friend who to this day will not listen to much of Jon Connor's stuff because he doesn't like that he raps on popular beats. He heard "U Don't Know" on the Blue Album and got turned off by it.
He was like, "If you're gonna rap on legendary beats, you better ? that ? !"
I agree with him on that part, but I'm not against rappers going in on classic beats, I thought J. Cole's Dead Presidents II track was fire, although even he admits he caught flack for not going in hard enough the first time.
What do you guys think?

Mixture of both but mainly original. U can touch a classic but ONLY if your going to ? it.

I agree with your friend.

I like a little bit of both, i think Game murked Kanye's Good Morning beat off that Candy Corona's mixtape. They flipped the beat a little

Basically.
I prefer original beats. Because most of the time they aint gonna ? a classic.
Cole's Dead Presidents II was an example of doing a classic justice though -
original ? i won't even listen to a mixtape where the dude is just rapping over other beats. maybe a song or 2 but that's it.

both, but the majority of the tape should be original...but i do hate when someone doesn't come correct on a classic beat, if ur gonna reuse a older beat at least go on a beat you can ? ex. Feelin It vs Dead Presidents

Obscure. A few classics is cool, but more often than not the individual embarasses themselves....tread lightly..

I don't dig the classic beats on mixtapes. Keep it original

I have always liked obscure beats that make me want to hunt down the vinyl or producer. Thank you DJ Screw and SUC
