Job posting suggests that a Valve-developed console may be on its way.

Valve may have said that a "Steam Box" isn't coming any time soon, but that doesn't mean that the PC-based home console from the developer isn't already in the works.

A new job posting has popped up on Valve's site, looking for an Electronics Engineer to "invent whole new gaming experiences" and "Work with the hardware team to conceive, design, evaluate, and produce new types of input, output, and platform hardware." The posting also makes reference to prototyping experience, knowledge of board layout and hardware definition languages, and ARM/X86 system design.

While there's no direct reference to a console, it's very obvious that the company is working on gaming hardware of some sorts.
