Less Than A Week Before the NFL Draft, College Football Player Arrested For Punching an Officer
By Jose Martinez | Apr 22, 2012 | 12:30 pm | Permalink

When a college football player decides to enter the NFL Draft, they should know that certain actions will come with potentially damaging repercussions. But who doesn't realize that, right? Apparently, Nebraska cornerback Alfonzo Dennard didn't get the memo. With less than a week before the life-altering moment in his life, Dennard was arrested early Saturday morning for punching an officer in the face.

According to the Omaha World Herald, a fight broke out at 2:15 a.m. between Dennard and another man outside of a bar. When officers tried to break up the scuffle, Dennard allegedly pushed and then punched a police officer in the face. The Nebraska cornerback will remain in police custody through the weekend and his bail will be set on Monday.

In the eyes of many draft observers, Dennard was probably going to come off the boards somewhere between the second and fourth round of this week's draft. But with another character issue on his resume (he was also ejected from the 2012 Capital One Bowl for getting into it with South Carolina receiver Alshon Jeffrey), Alfonzo's stock may drop considerably. And it all could've been easily prevented.
