Rawkus was a launching pad for so many artists , older rappers used Rawkus to Jump-start their careers , new artists gained notoriety and wen't onto major success or had a huge impact in the underground .

I miss those days , Hip Hop was powerful , I was using a fake ID to get into shows in and around the Boston area .

Some of these artists slowly lost relevance but the impact and some great music still remains .

    Yeah Rawkus was so dope.I was sad when they closed down.I never understood what happened with them.they had some great acts and some were selling like Mos and Monch.

    What's crazy is Rupert Murdoch's son started it.he owns everything like Fox, used to own myspace, Wall Street Journal etc.

    Rawkus was announced as closed in 2004, but opened back up in 2006 and hasn't really done ? since 2007.Biggest thing they had was Kidz In the Hall a couple of yrs back and Marco Polo be working

    If it wasn't for Rawkus , there would be no Kanye , Wale , Rich Kids .

    I've read business wasn't right at the label but they had a huge impact on Hip Hop music at that time .

    Late 90'S/Early 00'S was a beautiful time for Hip Hop .

    We were poor , things were rough but the music was pushing me to do more with myself , pick up books outside of school and truly educate myself . I spent the rest of my free time cutting records , tagging , writing , jumping in cyphers .

    I used to sneak out of my house to go Bombing , had a green canvas army back-pack , my mom slept on the couch and I would have to sneak by her with a backpack full of paint and a pocket full of fat-caps , cans would rattle , she would wake up and give me the Gasface (KMD for you toys) every night I snuck out .

    At one point the building behind ours was being renewed for gentrification , prior to that it was condemned so I could only hit up the outside , when they started working on it they set up lights inside so I could sneak in and paint at night without any problems .

    The city was not pleased , looked for me a whole summer , police would stop me just for walking down the street ..ahahaha

    I digress ...

    I'm too old to get knocked for vandalism now but I miss those days .

    When Company Flow broke up , Big Jus and EL-P parted ways , El-P created Def Jux (had to change the name to Definitive Jux because Def Jam wanted to sue) , Big Jus had Subverse records .

    This group the Micronauts was putting out music through Subverse , thats when I Self Devine started to gain notoriety , now he's on Rhymesayers .

    That's wild , I'm going to look into that , that would explain why artists felt they got ? , I don't think he was in charge of everyday operations , probably just funding but I could be wrong .

    its sad but true but lyrical rappers arent much of the hustling type very sad and very true ..... hip hop would be so much different if those rappers had the ambition the hustle along side all the talent they possess ......

    What makes you think those artists don't hustle?Talib stays working, Monch got a new deal and does shows, El P got an album with Killa Mike, The underground dudes hustle too.They hustle in the underground circuit the same way most acts in the south work the South east market

    Rupert probably never even knew he owned a rap label, but his son was the owner.I'm sure at the end of the day it was Rupert's money.The son later let another company he owned buy Rawkus, The News Corporation I think

    Immortal Technique sold 60'000 copies of Revolutionary Vol. 1 (Maybe more) hand to hand back when , put all that money in his pocket .

    I can't see non of the vids @ work but Rawkus was killin it. And the "Game" recordings had some heaters too, they had strippers and porn stars on all the album covers
