It's that time of year… Right now, TV networks are working on pilots for potential new series for next season. And that means something's gotta go. In the next couple of weeks, many big decisions will be made on what to get rid of and what to save. Yes, there are some shows that definitely are getting renewed, even if a formal announcement has yet to be made. But there are also many shows that are still in that uncertain place, some more dangerously than others.

30 Rock Renewed for a Final Season 7
NBC renews 30 Rock for one last season, while renewing Parenthood and ordering two new dramas.
by Eric Goldman MAY 10, 2012

NBC have renewed 30 Rock for Season 7 - and it's also confirmed that it will be the final season of the show, which has long been speculated. The final season will consist of 13 episodes, with the return date still to be determined.

NBC have also renewed Parenthood for Season 4.

Still not officially renewed are The Office & Parks and Recreation. The Office is fully expected to return, with Deadline now reporting new deals have been reached with Ed Helms, John Krasinski and Jenna Fischer, whose contracts were up. Parks and Rec and Community are likely returning - though it's unclear for how many episodes.

We'll know more soon, as NBC announces their full 2012-2013 schedule Monday.

The Hollywood Reporter notes NBC also ordered two new series today - Infamous and Do No Harm. A modern day Jekyll and Hyde drama, Do No Harm stars Steven Pasquale as a surgeon with a dark alter ego.

Infamous stars Meagan Good as a detective who inserts herself into the wealthy family she grew up among, in the guise of the maid's daughter, in order to solve a murder.

    Community Renewed for Season 4!
The Greendale gang will be back! Rejoice, Human Beings!
by Eric Goldman MAY 10, 2012

We can all finally rest easy: Community has been renewed for Season 4 by NBC. The order is a shorter one, for 13 episodes, but for now, we can all just bask in the happiness knowing we can return to Greendale for another year. The news was first broken by Vulture’s Joe Adalian via Twitter and then reported by multiple sources.

The reduced episode order may not be ideal, but as a fan, honestly, I'm just glad the show is returning. And it remains to be seen whether the show could still get picked up for additional episodes. Don't forget, Chuck was only renewed for thirteen episodes its final three seasons, but Seasons 3 and 4 then both got extended.

On the heels of 30 Rock's renewal for a seventh and final season earlier today and The Office's renewal all but cemented, this leaves Parks and Recreation and Up All Night still unaccounted for among NBC's comedies still waiting for renewal news - at least the ones that could be returning, as Whitney, Are You There Chelsea, Bent and Best Friends Forever all look to be dead.

    Cougar Town Saved By TBS
Penny Can will live on for a fourth season! But not on ABC.
by Matt Fowler MAY 10, 2012

With many fans of ABC’s cult comedy Cougar Town desperately wondering about its fate, TBS announced that it’s grabbing the show for their own! Yes, Cougar town is moving to TBS with the network ordering a fourth season of the series – to begin airing in early 2013.

"Cougar Town is a smart, whimsical sitcom that draws its humor from likable, relatable characters" said Michael Wright, president, head of programming for TBS, TNT and Turner Classic Movies (TCM). "We are thrilled to have Cougar Town moving to the TBS neighborhood as the network continues to expand its slate of original comedy series."

    Alcatraz Cancelled by FOX
As FOX orders several new series, they have cancelled the J.J. Abrams-produced Alcatraz.
by Eric Goldman MAY 9, 2012

As they order several new series for fall, FOX has cancelled Alcatraz, reports Deadline. The J.J. Abrams-produced series debuted to decent numbers, but continued to fall most weeks in the ratings - notably falling again the week it aired its season finale (most shows at least receive a finale bump).

It hasn't been all bad news for J.J. Abrams this past week though. FOX has ordered a fifth season of Fringe, while NBC have ordered his new series, Revolution, from Supernatural creator Eric Kripke.

The news about Alcatraz comes on a busy day for FOX, as they ordered five new series and renewed Touch for a second season.

This leaves The Finder as the only drama series FOX has yet to make a decision on, though it's not looking good for the low-rated Bones spinoff.

Update: Alas, there goes The Finder! FOX have cancelled that series as well, says TVLine.

Meagan Good as a detective? Really? I'm not sure she can carry a show by herself tbh but will certainly be interested.

NBC renews ‘Parks and Recreation,’ ‘Up All Night’
    By Lisa de Moraes

NBC on Friday picked up more of its modestly-rated comedies: “Parks and Recreation,” “Up all Night,” “Whitney.”

Also picked up: what’s left of “The Office.” The network’s most watched comedy series is losing several key people for next season: Mindy Kaling is defecting to Fox, which picked up her new comedy series. Rainn Wilson is leaving, to star in a spinoff for NBC, and showrunner Paul Lieberstein is going with him. James Spader, who joined “The Office” as a regular after Steve Carell left, is out after this season too.

Amy Poehler starrer “P&R” has been ordered for a full season, which is a vote of confidence in that show. That, in contrast to “30 Rock” which, on Thursday, was given one final 13-episode renewal; “Community” also snared a 13 episode pickup that day. Those orders mean the two series will share their timeslots with other programs in the course of the TV season, as they did this season.

    Happy Endings Renewed
    Steak Me Home Tonight!
by Eric Goldman MAY 11, 2012

Let's meet up at Steak Me Home Tonight to celebrate, people - Happy Endings is renewed for Season 3! The comedy was notably absent from ABC's big lists of renewals yesterday (including Revenge, Once Upon a Time, Modern Family, The Middle, Castle, Grey's Anatomy and Suburgatory), but the network have let us fans breath easy now.

ABC series still waiting for their fates include Last Man Standing, Scandal, Missing, Private Practice, GCB and Body of Proof.

Happy Endings is funny as hell. That and Cougar Town, best two sitcoms on TV.

    NBC Cancels Awake, Chelsea, More...
One exceptional drama and three "meh" comedies bite the dust.
by Matt Fowler MAY 11, 2012

In the midst of all their pick ups and renewals (Parks and Rec, etc), NBC has cancelled the shows Awake, Are You There, Chelsea?, Best Friends Forever and Bent.

    Damn, Awake had potential.

Happy Endings has great potential. Show could be a classic if they tone down the campiness and keep up consistent writing.

Ratings are falling, but the show is still the #1 scripted sitcom on cable. But yea, don't know how it would go on without Tia Mowery, and with Pooch Hall and Colby Bell only guest starring. That's 4 of the main cast gone, including Brittany Murphy. That just leave...Tasha, Malik and...Tee Tee? They would have to spin it off at that point into "The Wright Family" or some ? .
