(AP) LAS VEGAS - The NBA Board of Governors approved a new look for uniforms and a couple of changes in the use of video replay.
Commissioner David Stern met with the media Thursday after the Board of Governors held their annual summer meeting.
He said the league is looking to add possibly $100 million in revenue by permitting small advertising patches on uniforms starting in the 2013-14 season.
"The view is, that the teams would need a significant time; one, to sell the patch; and number two, for Adidas to manufacture the uniforms, because the patch that would be on the players' uniforms would also appear on the jerseys at retail," said Deputy Commissioner Adam Silver, who is handling the uniform change.
Silver said there are revenue projections from European soccer teams that the NBA could use.

So how are they going to work out the conflict of advertisers. Who makes the jersey vs. who wants there advertisement on them vs. the players endorsement deals.

nba turning their jerseys into myspace pages..
i actually don't even know what this means. its just that the only thing i really remember from myspace pages was "thanks for the ad" -
smart move really. it's coming to every league at some point as owners look for new revenue streams.
-
lol @ okc having sonic on their jerseys
-
its gonna be crazy seeing somene who has an addidas contract wearing nike ads....i wonder how they will figure that all out.
-
they are going to be on the retail version of the jerseys too?? damn
-
Unless it's as big as the numbers...it still wouldn't matter. The only thing I ever thought of as advertising are the sneakers they are playing in. I can't stand Stern but I can't knock his hustle if he convinced some dumb ? to pay him 100 m for a patch. Maybe this lowers ticket prices or.....yeah right.

Whats the big deal? This will make the players more money...and in about 3 years nobody will give a ? about the "cheesy" factor it will just be normal. Just like in soccer.
-
this will bring in lots of revenue esp with the ratings going up from last season (thats if it stays up). Im not feeling this move though.
side note: I think at some point these leagues should institute time limits on how long commissioners can be in office. This dude been the commish before i was born, they need to put him out to pasture. -
the cost of a company putting its logo on a jersey will be passed along to the consumer.

that's easy. don't buy the jersey. Plus they would just charge whatever advertiser it is that extra cost. It's their advertising patch. does seem stupid to put the patch on retail versions though. but if ppl don't buy them with the patch then they will take them off. -
