A male cougar has always just been considered a pervert or a ? old man whereas a female one is some kind of empowered sex goddess.

i think society usually frown on the women in these situations because if an older man is with a hot young chick, he's usually outkicked his coverage and the perception is the woman is only with him for money.

I'm pretty sure mid to late 20's is still acceptable for a 40 year old. It's when you're 50-60 and ? with 25 year olds that it's nasty. -
It's the same reason why society look down on male sexual predators (teachers), but no big deal is made with female sexual predators who are teachers. I think it's looked at more as sexual when the woman is involved, when the male is older it's look at as he is taking advantage of a younger chick. It's that woman is a victim mentality!

The thing about being a male is that you suffer a lot in ya younger years, socially speaking, but you age like wine and have it smooth past 30, if you prepare for it. No cougar for the male; only paid off work.

Because when people think of older male/younger female couples they think of stuff like "? ", "gold digger", and "Hugh Hefner". They basically think the man is in it for the sex. However, that is not the case all the time. I've seen some cougers with some sugar baby men.

i wasn't talking about that either. show me where in american society are people more cool with seeing a 40 year old woman dating a 20 year old man than the reverse? i've never seen that. being a cougar is still pretty taboo from everything i've seen, where as the reverse is more widely accepted.
let me put it like this, do you see more of the 40 yr old man, 20 yr old girl couples or do you see more cougar couples?

Its weird though, because men gain sex appeal with age (n/h), and women lose it entirely past a certain age.
