(AllHipHop News) Legendary Hip-Hop group Public Enemy has officially been inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, AllHipHop.com has learned (December 11).

In October, 15 artists were announced as nominees, from a wide variety of genres of music.

According to a leak by the Rock Hall, Donna Summer and Public Enemy have been confirmed as members of the Class of 2013.

An artist is only eligible to be nominated to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, 25 years after the release of their debut single or album.

In Public Enemy’s case, the group’s first full-length release was 1987′s Yo! ? Rush The Show.

The following year, Public Enemy released its groundbreaking album It Takes A Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back.

“Public Enemy’s induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame is totally a team effort,” Chuck D. told AllHipHop.com, during a stop on the Hip-Hop Gods Tour.

“A group is what we’ve been these past 25 years, 84 countries, 85 tours. We are the sum of great individuals who have followed Hip-Hop’s elemental blueprint of collective necessary to be considered comparable to stand up to the many great musics, genres artists before and alongside,” Chuck D. said. “We are seriously thankful and share this achievement with our Hip-Hop and rap music idiom.”

Def Jam co-founder Russell Simmons spoke want the importance of Public Enemy being nominated into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

Simmons was the CEO of Def Jam during the time Public Enemy released several critical albums, including Fear of a Black Planet and Apocalypse ’91…The Enemy Strikes Black.

“Favorite, most inspiring band ever,” Russell Simmons told AllHipHop.com. “I quote Chuck daily,” which the mogul did today (December 11) on Twitter.

Public Enemy follows artists like Grandmaster Flash & The Furious 5, Afrika Bambaataa, The Beastie Boys and Run-DMC, who are already members of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

The ceremony honoring the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame’s Class of 2013 will be held in Los Angeles at the Nokia Theatre.

The event will take place on April 18.

This is epic. I'm glad to hear P.E. is going into the Hall of Fame. The Hall's got a repectable Hip Hop wing forming: Grandmaster Flash & the Furious Five, Run DMC, The Beastie Boys, and now P.E.

As the years pass, and rap gets older as an artform, it should be interesting to see who else gets in. NWA may get in next year, and LL's been nominated a few times, so he should get in at some point. Russell Simmons will probably get in as a non-performer, 'cause he's affiliated with too many HOF'ers (PE, RUN DMC, the Beasties) to be kept out. And, in 2018, I think Dr. Dre will be a lock to get in.

All good posts. It's nice to see hip hop heads that got love and respect for the genuine and deeply influential rap artists.

Congratulations! I'm proud to be a fan of the group and witness of their movement. Since 80's to mid 90's they had game on lock! If you don't believe check Do The Right Thing movie. It looks like time capsule today.

Sweeeet... glad to see PE make it in, seeing how much they changed hip hop. Hopefully NWA gets in next year, at least they're letting hip hop acts in now.

Sidenote: Super stoked to see Rush get inducted too *Rush fan post*
