Big Sean discusses his aspirations for his upcoming sophomore LP "Hall of Fame."

Even though he missed the mark on a 2012 release by a small margin, Big Sean's upcoming sophomore release Hall of Fame: Memoirs of a Detroit Player is poised to be one of the biggest releases of 2013. Now, in a recent interview with Rap-Up, the G.O.O.D. Music rapper discusses his approach to the project.

Big Sean said that Hall of Fame will be a far more inspirational and conceptually-driven project than his debut Finally Famous: The Album. He explained that he wants to create a larger, lasting impact with the album, similar to the kinds of legacies achieved by the likes of Tupac and Kanye West.

"The vlogs I've been talking about reality and imagination, a lot of the album has that same touch, taste, and tone, just being super inspirational, super intellectual, and of course it’s still got bangers on there too,” he said. “It’s like an emotional roller coaster. You happy, hype as hell, sad as hell, real ? , motivational ? . It’s a great body of work, so I’m excited about it.”

He continued, “A lot of my songs, even with my first album, they didn’t really teach too much. It had some meaningful stuff on there, but I didn’t get a chance to teach. If you look at people like Bob Marley or even Tupac or ‘Ye and Jay, they’ve taught in their own ways. I want to make sure I teach and leave a legacy.”

I can respect that he wants to be remembered and it's not impossible but just do you don't force us to remember you. I guess when your boss' first two albums are regarded as classics you gotta try to compete when that isn't the case because Ye allowed his album to naturally come together. Guess we'll see what happens.

I like some of dudes music but this "hall of fame" title and the tropical juice single makes me not take me seriously untill i see it. Also sidenote if you want your album to be one of the best of the year but release it early in the year 9 times out of 10 it will be forgotten by the summer.

He wants to leave a legacy but all he talking about still in guap is how his mom need a car his homie needs some other ? and he needs his iphone charged right now. C'mon son you still rapping about the same ? from FF the album.

that's the thing tho its not just big sean overhyping albums its a large majority of these rappers dropping albums. Just like how meek was talking about he was gunna go plat first week and damn near every other rapper old and new talking about how their next album is a classic when most times its not.

this, its making everything so underwhelming the only two that I can think of that didn't overhype their music was Future and Kendrick

agreed and the funny ? is allot these rappers that are going first album or trina get their first big crossover album acting all cocky and ? knowing damn well they got the superfriends cast of features carrying their album. And you right about kendrick and future. Even though i am not a fan of future both of them just dropped their albums and let the album do the talking to whomever listens to thier music.

I like Big Sean too. That Memories joint on FF is a damn near classic, if it's not. He speaking real stuff on there. He does need to rap more about real stuff if he want's to be remembered. But he has potential. He has flow, creativity and metaphors. Let's wait and see. But if things keep going like guap... I don't know man... You don't even have to listen to the song to know what it's about. The title says it all.

I want to believe the kid. Something about him seems genuine.

It's such a hard balance these days, because you have to weigh putting out more serious material against the very real possibility that simpleminded fans won't support it. Especially after you led off with issh like "Dance (Azz)," not that that's not dope.

I do like "Memories" and "24K of Gold," where he kind of is motivational.

GKMC made all these young cats wanna step their issh up.

you right but in the mid 2000's ? would buy an album based off hype or a previous classic album of an artist btu now they not falling for that ? anymore. and for these new ? they aint even got a hot previous album and have lots to prove. So when they talk out they ass it don't even equate to sells.
