Old School
Moderate number of weapons that are very different from each other.
More fantasy based and unrealistic in nature
Variety of characters to choose from for multiplayer
Start of with single weapon with other weapons being distributed throughout the stage
Has Powerups which are distributed throughout the stage
Weapons have secondary fire.
Life is replenished by finding life boxes in the stage
Usually one movement speed that can be set in the options
Weapons have unrealistic accuracy and recoil
More individual based gameplay
Examples: Golden Eye, Timesplitters, Quake, Unreal Tournament
New School
Large number of weapons contained in a number of weapon classes
More realistic
Player character is generic but can be customized
Each player has a loadout that contains one or two weapons they carry into every match
Has perks that can be added to a player's layout
Weapons have multiple possible enhancements that can be chosen
Life regenerates over time.
Player has a walking speed and a limited sprint
Weapons behave more like real life counterparts
More team based gameplay
Examples: Call of Duty, Killzone, later Resistance games, Battlefield
Personally I prefer the old school games. They had crazier selections of weapons and I prefer the more Run and Gun style they had to the strategy team oriented styles of the newer games.

I'm old school since Perfect Dark and TImesplitters 2 are still my favorite FPS games. I played some new ones that I liked, but they didn't grab me the same way. I need to try that BLOPS 2 and some of the others when I get a chance.

both... more newschool though
for pc quake 1 back in the day was ? withe the grapple mod along with the rocket trapd cant say enough bout that joint(gibs!!)
RESISTANCE 1 was ? thats the first game we started to posse up on
when cod4 came out it was a wrap it wasnt as crazy and accessory dependant as the preceding games it was a great party game
i just dont like the influence it has had over fps this gen alot of games didnt catch rec only because it wasnt cod... wasnt easy to aim like in cod or have the arcade pacing ... it kinda dumbed down the gen ... made ? very predictable and forced hands of devs to recreat way too many aspects of cod for their games

The only thing I don't like in modern fps is regenerateable life bars.

More old school type. Doom, rise od the triad etc and ? like borderlands or dishonored

Objective/Team based and Realism, Just as I like my sports games.
COD = NFL Blitz
Battlefield = Madden -
Third person shooters>>>>>>>>>>>>

LOL@ COD equates to NFL Blitz
Hell nah. -
Damn, I'd never want to play Battlefield if COD is unrealistic in comparison. I want a game that's crazy as ? . That's why I liked the Timesplitters series. The mechanics of the game itself were good then all the ridiculous characters and weapons just made it fun as hell. It had the Ghostbusters gun for goodness sake.

Hell nah.
Blitz is a NFL Arcade Game and COD is a Arcade FPS.
Madden is a realistic, simulation as is Battlefield.
That does not mean games are inferior because they are Arcade style. Arcade games are fun and easy to pick up and play. They also introduced most of us to gaming. Games like 007, Crusin USA, Mortal Kombat, NBA Jams, Pac Man etc...... COD is in good company. -
Had to a couple other differences including the thing that I hate the most about New School FPS games. I much prefer the one movement speed that you can set to having a limited sprint. I love fasted paced action. The constant start and stop of sprinting annoys me.

Lol the ? i did i just read? ? wishing they could marathon pro the whole game.

Damn real lol That's how we used to play back in the day. Hell that's how Unreal Tournament is. There was only one speed on that ? . Fast as ? .
