13 Year Old Tekken Champ Says Button Mashing Strategy Key to Victory
While he may have only placed third in the Tekken Tag Tournament 2 Unlimited Global Championship, Alexandre “AK” Laverez destroyed many popular Tekken players in the tournament with a strategy called button mashing.actualpandashaveplacedintekkentournamentsDespite his age, Laverez managed to impress many doubters after he made it to the semifinals. It was so impressive that Tekken director Katsuhiro Harada personally gave him a gift at the tournament. In various post-tournament interviews, Laverez reiterated that his button mashing strategy is something he has been working on for years.
“I learned that I had a great talent for fighting games when I beat all of my older brothers when I was just five,” bragged Laverez, “They kept calling me a button masher. I didn’t know what that meant at the time, but eventually I figured out it was the name of a strategy that many people did not like using. I decided that I would be the one to take this strategy to the pro level.”
When asked how he developed this button mashing strategy, Laverez explained the excruciating training process behind the technique.
“You just have to let your mind go,” said Laverez, “The strategy works with and against you. Sometimes you feel like you’re losing, but that does not mean you can just start focusing and use other techniques. You have to keep button mashing and it will pay off in the end. The only reason I did not win the whole tournament was because I was afraid that button mashing would not cut it. I won’t make that mistake again.”
“Pretty much everyone I fought against also used their own version of the button mashing technique,” continued Laverez, “I know a lot of people like to play blindfolded because it gives them that extra edge to mash harder, but I go old school and just close my eyes. Unfortunately, the allure of the audience was too great for us so it only looked like we were concentrating really hard on the game when we were actually just looking at the huge crowds.”
Street Fighter champion Daigo “The Beast” Umehara said that he too endorses the button mashing strategy saying that it has saved him from many close defeats in the past.
