By DAILY MAIL REPORTER

A ? college student who allegedly ran over a Highway patrol officer while he was investigating another hit-and run accident told him he should be ‘out catching real criminals.’ Gina Garcia-Ronquillo, 18, smashed into Florida Highway Patrol officer Josh Evans as he stood by the side of the road following an earlier accident near the University of Central Florida on early Sunday morning.

The woman failed to stop after striking the officer and was only halted when he chased after her and performed a pursuit tactic, forcing her vehicle to stop. Dashcam video released by the Florida Highway Patrol shows officer Evans chasing after the teen.

He can be heard on the tape saying, ‘My left leg is injured. I need some more units out here for traffic control because people are flying by and this vehicle is still in the intersection.’ Police spokesman Kim Montes said Evans's leg was pinned against his own vehicle after it was shunted by Garcia-Ronquillo.

He had to crawl back to his car due to injury to his leg to begin his pursuit of the student. She was stopped using what is known as a PIT maneuver, which stands for Precision Immobilization Technique.

The officer used his car to spin the suspect off the road. When Garcia-Ronquillo was removed from the vehicle, she told Evans she didn't do anything wrong but he suspected she had been drinking. The teenager said she had been at the University of Central Florida watching a film about boy band One Direction and had only drank orange juice. According to an arrest report she told the officer she was ‘a good person, a Christian, she was in college and had a good GPA.’

She then told the officer he should be ‘out catching real criminals.’ Garcia-Ronquillo failed a roadside sobriety test and was taken to Orange County jail. She was found to have a blood alcohol of almost twice the legal limit. The teen was charged with DUI and property damage as well as leaving the scene of an accident resulting in injury. ‘[The] 18-year-old should have never had anything to drink because she’s not 21 and she blew almost twice the legal limit,’ said Sgt. Montes.

Evans was treated for a leg injury and released from hospital.
