I think rap is getting more technical
A lot of artists are putting more emphasis on creating more complex rhyme schemes, better metaphors, stronger word play

The mainstream scene is definitely weaker, but the art as a whole seems to be evolving well in my opinion

On a side note I heard Reagan by Killer Mike for the first time last night. I've had it on repeat all day today

Peep. I dunno' how old Zigefresh is, or if it matters...that much. There's a reason I clicked on this thread, because a lot of the time I'm yellin' the same ? . But as I read his rant I felt the ? lose momentum and fall flat. Like 32 said we ain't lived the year yet, there's always a possible miracle ahead. It's muhfuckas hard at work every night in basements and such pouring they heart into the ? . All over the place, everywhere, all the time. An' that's the problem. Cheap software and gear, weak ass corporate pushes behind 12 year olds with a stupid dance. ? got ? ? Make her a star by tomorrow. Market which used to be a voice for the hood is now ? ' Katrina'ed with a flood of ? rappers and gimmicks. Old ass heads like me seen it change. It's mad frustrating and transparent. The game does change, ? don't stay the same but the difference is skills really don't matter no more. You gotta' learn to flip through, dig like you in the record store an only got 25 to spend. You can't hear somebody that talks to you in they music if you're standing in a colosseum full of screaming teenagers. Just my take on the ? , much love.

alot of what is mainstream is not hip hop. it may be called it, but it ain't. search through underground artists, ask around and i am sure you will find some cats you never heard that are hip hop and will blow ya mind.
