Warren Sapp believes former Tampa Bay Buccaneers teammate Simeon Rice was a superior player to Michael Strahan.
We know that because Sapp went out of his way to explain this in a recent interview with the Tampa Tribune. Sapp's comments were picked up here and elsewhere, and they eventually reached Tiki Barber, Strahan's longtime teammate with the New York Giants.
"Warren's an idiot," Barber said at a golf event on Monday, according to the New York Post. "He just wants to say things to be idiotic. I played with Stray for my whole career. He is the greatest of the great. He is a great teammate, he kept things light, but on game day he was as serious as a heart attack, and it showed in his play."
Sapp says Strahan's numbers were inflated because he went up against right tackles most of his career. Sapp -- who will be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame later this summer -- said Rice "was a better rusher than Michael Strahan any day of the week and twice on Sunday."
"Warren doesn't know, never played with him," Barber said. "I don't put any credence in his opinion. I hope Stray doesn't let it bother him. I don't think it does."
If we're Barber, we're finding a way to parlay this into financial gain on his weird book-a-? website. You wouldn't pay a few hundred bucks to have Sapp and Strahan share cramped space at your next fantasy draft?

my simeon rice moment. I was at the panthers/bucs game several years ago. back the panthers were on the come up and the Bucs had that great defense. Anyway, i think it was sometime before the game Warren Sapp and Rice guarenteed a win and Sapp said that Rice was the best DE in the game.....
so during a timeout they were doing something where they interview a fan, and its broadcast over the loudspeaker for the entire stadium. I don't know what the premise of it was, all i remember is the dude saying something like "warren sapp and simeon rice you guarenteed a win but we're going to kick your butt and the best defensive end in the game is playing today and his name is Julius peppers"....everyone in the stadium got loud and you could see rice and sapp trying to incite the crowd after that happened.
so play resumes and Rice gets back-to-back sacks and then almost had 3 sacks in a row, he missed, but Jake threw an interception.

Sapp does have a point about Stray playing against RT his whole career..
I will say Stray is the more complete DE out of the 2.. -
Simeon Rice was a monster. He always reminds me of Derrick Thomas because of his impact on a game.

Tiki will have a better chance of sewing some shredded, wet toilet tissue back together than he will putting his soul back together after Eli took it. -
Tiki doing whatever he can to try to recover from his lawses. It ain't working.

Strahan was a better DE by a good margin over Rice.
Rice was a 1 dementional player for the most part.
That "his stats came against mostly Right Tackles" was a dumb comment.
Right tackles typically have a TE on there side to help, as well at a RB.
They also are the DE that the QB can see coming.
Sure the better pass blocker of the two plays left, but the RT has things that balance the playing
field toward them too.
