Two New Posters For Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom
See Idris Elba & Naomie Harris get political

If you need an example of determination and tenacity to get you through to the weekend, here are a couple of posters for the upcoming Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom to help inspire you. With Idris Elba as the South African President and Naomie Harris as Winnie Mandela, the film aims to cover Mandela's whole life, so no pressure.

Telling Mandela's story from his youth in a rural village to his election as President, this is certainly epic in scope. It's based on Mandela's autobiography, which gives the film its subtitle and which is a fascinating read if you have a spare 656 pages in your life (there's also an illustrated version for kids if you prefer).

South African producer Anant Singh apparently spent 16 years developing the film, which is reportedly South Africa's biggest-ever production. Justin Chadwick, director of The Other Boleyn Girl, is in charge, with a script by regular Ridley Scott collaborator William Nicholson.

Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom opens in the UK on January 3 next year.

Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom Trailer
The leader you know... The man you didn't

19 July 2013 | Written by James White | Source: Yahoo

Thursday, July 18 was Nelson Mandela’s 95th birthday, and though he’s recently suffered a serious health scare, the former president of South Africa is still with us. It also seems the right day for the Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom trailer, which features Idris Elba playing him.

Promising to unspool the story of the man behind the leader we know today, Walk delves into his radical activist past, his frustration with the way South Africa was governed, the crippling apartheid and his own desire to simply see his children live in freedom.

Elba has a tough job here – Nelson Mandela is one of the most recognisable figures in the world, and while much of the film appears to take place at a time when the wider world wasn’t awash in news coverage about the man as in his later years, audience preconceptions are inevitable and will need overcoming.

Justin Chadwick directed this one, and the cast also features Naomie Harris, Gys de Villiers, Robert Hobbs and Theo Landey. It will arrive here on January 3 next year.
