Anybody going to see this? many are calling it james wan's best film as it steers clear of the typical cheap gore gagging induced scenes in torture porn and b-movie horror comedies that make u laugh ironically. which seems like 90% of horror movies today fall into either of those categories. it instead opts for spine chilling, atmospheric, old fashioned, scare-you-shitless scenes many horror fans so desperately miss from the genre. which is kind of ironic coming from the person who directed Saw

Yet, not surprising coming from the person who also directed Insidious. Movie's looking good. James Wan has been gradually improving and becoming more refined in the horror genre since 'Saw'.

Yea insidious was solid. i just found it notable how the person who arguably jump started the torture porn craze in the horror genre is now taking on a more subdued, refined style of filmaking. But i guess that was inevitable as u would hope that film directors progressively improve throughout their career. well, unless your name is m. night shylaman, michael bay, or tyler perry -
Going to see it on Monday
-
girl dragged me to see this ? last night...it was kinda wack...? was slow developing....didn't really scare me that...i think they could have done more with the doll storyline
-
So nobody seen it yet
-
It was a decent old school scary flick i rather enjoyed... it if you open believe in spirits an all that it might weigh heavy on you lol
-
I saw it. Its basically a modern day Excorist
-
I might see it, even though I'm not a fan of horror movies. They just leave me with this unsatisfied feeling, kinda like a bad comedy.
-
saw it last night...it was "meh" to me. I probly shouldn't have read any reviews before seeing it cuz they had me expecting more. Story was solid but it wasn't scary. It woulda worked better as being sold as a thriller than a horror movie.
-
Saw it on Friday. Loved it. I agree it's Wan's best work to date.
Sidenote: It's always funny to me when men "thumbs down"a horror movie because they weren't scared. Well I certainly hope not. I wouldn't and don't expect a grown ass man to be scared by 99% of horror movies. That being said, just because they weren't scared doesn't mean the movie isn't good.
This one is the best I've seen in a while. I'm kind of over the torture porn and excessive gore just for the sake of being shocking. It's too easy. -
? was nice. Saw it on friday.
Wanna play hide and clap?
? saw this ?
And was like
Saw this ? comin
Saw this sign posted after I saw the ?
I was like interesting marketing ploy.

lol so was Perez there?

A friend said he surprisingly gave it a 8.5/10. I'll eventually check it out.

Its worth the movie experience. Bring your woman of course.

This movie has very good. Horror movies usually end up up being cheap, stupid films that turn into soft porn. This movie was intense. Some parts raised the hairs on my neck. The setting and cast kept me on edge and were very convincing. I would recommend this movie.
-
Forgot I even made this thread, lol. So yea after finally seeing it, overall it was a very well made film. Although claims of it being "the scariest movie ever made" are grossly overstated, certain scenes were very intense and had ur eyes glued to the silver screen. Like many have stated, it offers simple old school scares with atmospheric tension. I like how wan used the set pieces to his advantage.

Saw it last night, chick was screaming, I was sitting there like:
Wasn't better than dead silence, they should have done more with the doll. Probably not Wan's best but he hasn't made bad flicks.
Story: 6/10 (was all over the place)
Scare Factor: 5/10
Overall: 5.5/10
Way overhyped.

damn didn't know most of this ? happened for real...

If you black, you'll be aight, demons only ? with white people that have no business doing stupid ? . -
Hoped they would play more on the hide and clap ? for suspense, the subplot of their own daughter getting caught up with the doll was pointless. Anyone stay after credits? Was wondering if she ended up opening the locket thing to some twist
-
? was wack.
Why did the mother lie about the bruises on her body? She knew damn well it wasn't iron deficiency.
The fact that the doll was non-essential to the plot was insulting to the audience's intelligence. Actually, the room full of relics was pointless. The movie could have been about any of the junk in there, but we only get stories about the doll and music box.
How many times did they do the "demon sitting in the background and slowly turning its head towards the camera before disappearing a second later, not doing anything in particular" thing? FOH
Maybe it's because horror movies aren't scary to adults, but can directors/studios cut it out with the suspenseful music and loud rumbling like something scary is about to happen? We're only 10 minutes into the film, of course we aren't about to see a demon. FOH
The demonologist can successfully perform an exorcism by himself, all the while looking like he's unsure of the words coming out of his mouth? The witch should've saw the ? in him and cut his head off.
Speaking of witches, the movie completely blurred the lines between ghosts and demons. And did you notice that in a movie called "The Conjuring", there was NO CONJURING OF ANYTHING?
The Devil Inside >>>> all these wack ass horror movies
I'm just happy they didn't ? the black detective, although it would have been nice for SOMEBODY to die besides the dog. And GTFOH with the happy ending including the bruises on the woman's body disappearing the moment she walks outside. -

That's how I figured this movie was based on a true story. Black people don't do stupid ? to ? with demons. Dude told him not to touch the statue, he was like aight cool and left.
White people on the other hand...
I can also tell you from personal experience, demons can't mess with ? 's people (Christians) that's why the quote at the end was so trill, you either with ? or following satan. I've personally seen demonic presences so what she saw with the dark shadowy figure and dark aura, that was true, the chick getting her leg pulled, I had a friend told me that ? happened to him and also I had sleep paralysis and this outer body experience when I was a kid.
I heard a story about someone waking up with bruises before but I can't remember where.
Like what the couple was saying, demons only come in if you allow them in. That's why I can't mess with ouiji boards or hold prolonged convo's about that ? . The supernatural presence is real though so there was some truth to this movie. -

I think horror movies in general are for teenagers and women. Although comedy horrors can be entertaining.
But if you ever watched the movie DEVIL and saw this scene at the end it was prob one of the few times i felt uneasy. lolhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q4907DCQpvs

Na, I think the only movie that scared me was insidious cause of the astral projection.
