Back in the 90's when hip hop found its niche in music, the creativity of artists on both sides was at an all time high. Illmatic, Ready To Die, The Chronic, Me Against The World, etc. are among the most influential albums in history. Artists gave you their heart and soul on wax and the fans showed more love. My question is, does hip hop need that universal masterpiece again for this era to survive? Does todays hip hop need a newcomer to drop an album that will have people say "Damn, that's that ? . That is music right there. This is an album that defines todays hip hop in a way that it will live forever!"

I completely concur. Yet you took the time to reciprocate those "said" feelings.
This a hip-hop forum board. We're all hip-hop heads. ? gon disagree. Clearly you have a strong disdain for Kendrick and I don't. I chose to devalue your wack comment with some bars that can be applied to you.
Get over it my G.

These new schoolers scared to compete so the bar is only gonna go but so high.

Exactly. Everyone is all buddy buddy with everyone and that limits creativity -

I'm not saying they have to emulate DMX's career. But someone that can bring that energy to the game ala Tupac in the mid 90's, DMX in the late 90's and 50 Cent in 2003. -
Dude was at his biggest COMMERICALLY around his 3rd & 4th album (plus Exit Wounds Soundtrack) & had major hits on his 5th album & "Cradle 2 The Grave Soundtrack), ? is you talkin about?
X been had drug issues before the rap game.
As far as the question, yeah. Kendrick is one. Just depends on if you're talking commercially or not. -
i think its in a good place

No. Jigga's going plat before his album even drop help this ? stay in the light.
Kanye's pushing genre boundaries with each new album does too.
Universal appeal is not what will help hip hop. It has arguably been what has destroyed it. -
