If you wanted a separate screen to play backward compatible Wii games, this is the update for you.

A new system update from Nintendo adds a bunch of new features to the Wii U, including the ability to output Wii games on the Wii U GamePad.

It's important to emphasize that Wii games displayed on the GamePad still require a Wii remote (and nunchuck attachment) in order to play. Here's a quick list of other features included in this update:

The ability to automatically receive recommended demos and software using SpotPass.
The ability to disable Nintendo ID use via smartphone or web browser
USB keyboard support
A dedicated friend list icon on the Wii U Menu
Support for Dolby Pro Logic II Surround Sound when playing Wii software
Users can chat via a headset plugged into the Wii U GamePad
Internet Browser improvements
Overall system stability improvements

The system update arrives just one day before tomrrow's Nintendo Direct. Make sure to check IGN for all the news from Nintendo's presentation.
