Microsoft Giving Away Free Killer Instinct to 'Dedicated Users'

If you've been a dedicated Xbox Live user for quite some time, you might want to keep a close eye on your inbox. Various people from around the web, including members of IGN's Podcast Unlocked Facebook group, received emails this morning from Micosoft thanking them for their dedication and informing them about their incoming gift: A fully unlocked version of Killer Instinct for Xbox One. Thanks to IGN reader Tony Scimeca for the tip.

Though the exact criteria for who received these codes is still a bit vague, Microsoft shed a bit of light on it via Twitter by stating, "We considered a variety of things like Gamerscore, LIVE tenure, & other factors in markets where #XboxOne is available." We reached out to Microsoft for an official comment, and will update the story once we hear back.

UPDATE: A Microsoft representative responded to our request for clarification with the statement, "...we can confirm that we are sending a variety of Xbox gifts to some of our fans in celebration of the launch of Xbox One. We considered a variety of things including Gamerscore and Xbox Live tenure, as well as other factors in markets where Xbox One is available. These customers have received email messages with additional information."
