Woman Publicly Shames Man Who Beat Her Up After She Rejected Him

Alisha Hessler says she'd never met Gabriel Urena before Saturday night.
Hessler, 20 of Tampa, had gone out clubbing with two friends, and they invited Urena to join them.
On the ride home, Hessler says she and Urena were both in the backseat when he began making unwanted sexual advances toward her.
Advances turned to groping, according to Hessler, and she was eventually forced to strike Urena to get him to stop.
"I did hit him first and then all of a sudden that's when he started beating me repeatedly, punching me," she recalled, "until I had a broken nose and a concussion."
The following morning, Hessler phoned the police and asked to file a report, which she eventually did. She was then taken to a nearby hospital, treated, and released.
It was later that night that Hessler had a sudden change of heart.
Hessler found Urena's Facebook, and saw that he had expressed remorse over the beating.
"Lastnight (sic) was a wake-up call," he wrote. "I seriously need change."
Hessler was moved enough to offer him a way out: She agreed not to press charges if he agreed to sit with a dunce cap near a busy intersection for eight hours holding a sign that read, "I beat women. Honk if I'm a scumbag."
Urena agreed.
"I didn't want him to be locked up for a year. I honestly don't think that would teach him anything," Hessler told My Fox Tampa.
The alternative punishment was not well received by battered women advocate Mindy Murphy.
"There's so many problems with this," she told ABC Action News. "Women die every day at the hands of abusers. Sexual assaults occur every day. The fact that we've got a guy sitting in a dunce cap with a sign on the side of the road really is trivializing a serious issue."
Tampa police have attempted to reach Hessler several times since, but they say she has refused to return their calls.

Female Sailors Forced To Carry Human Waste In Hazing Ritual

A Navy Commander and another top ranking enlisted sailor have been fired, as fallout continues to grow from a hazing ritual that forced female sailors to march with buckets of human waste.
Cmdr. Kenneth Rice, the executive officer of the destroyer USS Jason Dunham and Master Chief Petty Officer Stephen Vandergrifft, the ship's command master chief, were both found guilty following two separate non-judicial hearings:An investigation found that on Oct. 15, a chief petty officer ordered 19 enlisted women to take human waste out of two nonworking toilets and place it in buckets, the Navy said. The chief petty officer then marched 13 of them with the buckets down to the pier to dispose of the waste in portable toilets.
Lt. Cmdr. Reann Mommsen, a spokeswoman for U.S. Fleet Forces Command, told The Virginian-Pilot that the sewage could have been disposed of in functioning toilets aboard the ships and marching the women to the pier constituted hazing.
Proper equipment to clean toilets on the ship, which the women were not given, include rubber gloves and face shields.
According to a statement released by U.S. Fleet Forces Command, others have also been punished for the hazing incident:
The investigation found that Cmdr. Michael Meredith, USS Jason Dunham's commanding officer, was initially unaware of the incident but took appropriate action after being informed Oct. 21. Other crew members assigned to USS Jason Dunham, who were involved in this incident, were also found in violation of UCMJ articles at non-judicial punishment or administratively sanctioned. -
Married Pennsylvania high school teacher arrested for having sexual relations in her car with student

A married Pennsylvania high school teacher has been arrested for having sexual relations with a male student.
The arrest came after the alleged victim's parents found a sexually explicit conversation on a laptop between 31-year-old Lauren Harrington-Cooper and the boy.
The parents went to Wyoming Valley West High School and informed the principal of the material Thursday and Harrington-Cooper, of Plymouth, was arraigned that night on a single count of institutional sexual assault.
According to the Times-Leader, Harrington-Cooper, a ninth-grade English teacher at the school, told the victim's sister she thought he was 'hot.'
The boy obtained Harrington-Cooper's phone number from his sister and the pair exchanged text messages.
They agreed to meet up and Harrington-Cooper picked the boy up near his home several times during which they had sex and Harrington-Cooper performed oral sex on the boy in the car.
The alleged incidents occurred beginning December 13.
According to the Times-Leader, Harrington-Cooper admitted having sexual relations with the boy, whom she knew was a high school senior to investigators.
Harrington-Cooper is married to Raphael Cooper, owner of Cooper Dance Academy.
On December 19, he told the school's students and their parents that classes were cancelled due to 'a family emergency' via Facebook.
Later that evening, he wrote: 'After the holiday, I , Raphael Cooper will address all of the members of our studio as to our future. Please keep everyone in our family in your prayers as we confront the days ahead.'
According to the Times-Leader, Harrington-Cooper has been placed under medical supervision after attempting to harm herself.
She was released on $25,000 bail and advised by District Judge Martin Kane that if she does not attend her preliminary hearing on December 26, she will be incarcerated.
According to the Citizen's Voice, Harrington-Cooper graduated from the University of Scranton in 2005. In addition to being a high school teacher, she teaches dance at Body Language Studios in Kingston.
School officials have not yet commented on the scandal.

Florida Thief Caught After Leaving Wallet at Crime Scene

A Florida man was quickly arrested after he left his own wallet at the crime scene.
22-year-old Keith Ray Howell was arrested Wednesday after he accidentally left his wallet at the scene of an armed robbery. Investigators found Howell's wallet in the driveway of the convenience store Howell allegedly robbed. After going to the address listed on his ID, investigators found a grocery bag on the porch with a ski mask inside.
Howell claims he knows nothing about the robbery and that his wallet had been taken from his car before the robbery. He claims he has no knowledge of the robbery. -

GOATAn Ohio Man Took Fifty Local Homeless People Out to a Four-Star Dinner

A wealthy Ohio developer who wanted to help Akron's homeless population hosted a gourmet four-course meal for 50 homeless diners this week.
Joel Testa, a developer and co-owner of a four-star Akron restaurant, asked his family and friends to raise money for the homeless instead of giving him birthday gifts for his forty-second.
“Generally, people are afraid of the homeless,” Testa told the Akron Beacon Journal. “The homeless are not lepers. Homelessness can happen to anyone.”
Testa told reporters that he used the donations he received for his birthday to offset the cost of the dinner, which included spinach quiche salad, potato leek soup, braised beef short ribs and a chocolate mousse desert. According to the Journal, diners were offered seconds and takeout bags with leftovers.
In addition to the dinner, Testa's daughter and her scout troop knitted scarves and handed them out.
There are an estimated 800 homeless people in Akron, outnumbering the available shelter beds by nearly two to one, something Testa is also trying to address. He appears to be developing a 60-unit apartment building exclusively reserved for veterans, homeless, and disabled people. -
Mother 'kills daughter, 13, after force-feeding her four children narcotic drugs to murder them all' on Christmas Day

An Arizona mom is in jail after allegedly trying to poison to death her four children on Christmas Day. Police say Connie Villa, 35, forced her kids aged 13, 8, 5 and 3 to swallow prescription narcotics, killing her oldest Aniarael Macias. Adam Villa first called police Wednesday night to report that his crazed ex-wife Connie had attacked and stabbed him repeatedly in the torso after luring him to her.
Police forced themselves into the home and found teenaged Aniarel dead in the bathroom. Connie was in the kitchen after apparently turning the knife on herself. Mr. Villa arrived after he was lured there by his ex-wife, AZcentral.com reports. He called authorities as he drove himself to the hospital. Left behind were his three children, the younger surviving children, who were at their mother's side as she held a knife to her chest and bled from what looked to be self-inflicted stab wounds to her upper torso. The children appeared unharmed. Tests later discovered traces of opiates in each of their systems.
Connie Villa was admitted to a Pheonix-area hospital, where she was treated for he stab wounds. An autopsy was performed on the body of Aniarel by Pima County, but it wasn't able to determine a cause of death. A toxicology report could take up to three weeks. Meanwhile, Aniarel's shocked family are left to wonder how and if a mother could commit such an atrocity and released this statement: 'On behalf of Michael Macias, Ania’s father, Vera Macias, Ania’s grandmother and extended family, we request that the focus of this tragedy be a celebration of our precious Ania’s life. 'She was a gentle, kind and beautiful spirit who was taken from us much too soon. Michael and his family are heartbroken. Ania was always smiling. She loved her brothers and sisters. She enjoyed spending time with her father and sister Gaby.
'We are writing this statement in hopes that the media and other outlets will allow Michael and our family to grieve peacefully. We thank everyone for the outpouring of support for our family. We appreciate your prayers and positive thoughts. We pray that justice will be served.' Connie Villa has been released from the hospital and booked on one charge of first degree murder and four charges of attempted. Ana Mollet is a member of Mothers Of Preschoolers, also known as MOPS says Connie Villa belongs to the group and that’s how they met.
'I met her at one of the meetings. And just before school started she was looking for someone to give her daughters rides after school,” Mollett said. She volunteered and says Aniarael was a smart, sweet girl. 'I remember her as a fun-loving young lady and she really loved her brothers and sisters,' Mollett said. She and other mom in MOPS plan to put on a bake sale to help pay for Aniarael's funeral. 'When we heard the tragedy we said, ‘If there's any way we can help just let us know,’” Mollett said. Sarah Lamb is organizing the bake sale. She says Aniarael’s death hurts all of these women. 'As a mother you never want to see another mother lose their child,' Lamb said.
They plan to hold the bake sale at the same place Connie’s family is holding a car wash. That’s at the Pep Boys in Casa Grande. -
Woman Stabs Fiancé for Choosing Wrong Wedding Color Scheme

Police in South Carolina say a Richland County man ended up in the hospital last week after being stabbed by his fiancée for disagreeing with her choice of wedding colors.
Richland County sheriff's deputies were called to the couple's Twin Pond Road on Christmas Day and found the unnamed victim bleeding from an upper body stab wound.
According to Sgt. Curtis Wilson, an argument over wedding color schemes had quickly escalated and the victim attempted to leave the residence.
As he was on his way out, the man's fiancée, 34-year-old Krysta James, reportedly lunged at him with a knife and stabbed him.
He was transported to a nearby hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
James was subsequently arrested and booked on a charged of criminal domestic violence of a high and aggravated nature.
She remained in jail until last Friday, when she was released after posting a $10,000 bond. -
Woman Accuses Daughter's Boyfriend of Molesting Son, Slices His ?

An Indiana woman was arrested last Saturday after she allegedly held her daughter's boyfriend against his will and sliced his ? with a box cutter over a drug-influenced belief that he had molested her two-year-old son.
In a written statement to investigators, the 18-year-old victim, of Avon, said he was brought to the Franklin trailer park home of Bonita Lynn Vela, 35, by her friend and forced to remain there for three hours while Vela threatened his life.
According to the teen, Vela was demanding to know if he molested her son, and said she was "going to take him out, shoot him in the head and tie him to a tree so the animals [would] eat him."
She then allegedly told the victim to drop his pants and choose between his life "or his ? ."
The teen said he agreed to drop his pants out of fear, at which point Vela attacked his member with a fork, then a knife, and finally a box cutter.
"She wanted to scar him so that he would have to look at it every time that he had sex in the future," the teen wrote in his statement.
Vela "cut him deep," according to the man, who was still bleeding when police arrived. He was transported to the unfortunately named Johnson Memorial Hospital for treatment.
In her own written statement, Vela confessed to holding the man hostage in her home with the help of two friends, and said her suspicions concerning the victim developed after she smoked marijuana and possibly ingested other drugs.
She recalled the victim begging her not to call the police and insisting he did not touch her son. Vela told investigators that if the teen "didn't have anything to hide then he should let her 'cut him.'"
However, she claims she did not cut his ? , but that it was nicked after the teen knocked it out of her hand. She further claimed her intention was only to scare him and not to hurt him.
Vela was booked on preliminary charges of battery with a deadly weapon and criminal confinement with a deadly weapon. She remained in Johnson County Jail in lieu of a $28,000 bond.

We now stand here, drinkin' our coffee, in an era when coffee prices are mired in the poorest market in a more than a decade. Why not buy hundreds and hundreds of pounds of coffee now, while you can afford it? From the Wall Street Journal:
Barring an unprecedented spike on Tuesday, the last trading day of the year, coffee will end the year in negative territory, as it did in 2011 and 2012.
Coffee prices haven't fallen for three consecutive years since the early 1990s.
Since 2011, coffee prices are down 49%. That is the largest two-year decline since 2000-2001, when prices fell 63%
And the coffee sharps expect prices to fall further next year, because everybody all over the world planted so much ? damn coffee that even with a new coffee shop opening on Franklin Ave. every month, there is just more coffee than the coffee sellers know what to do with.
You, the consumer, will continue to pay the same price for a cup of coffee though, because you're little more than a drug fiend. All the profits will go to the middlemen. That's where the action is in this game.

Coffee shop with baristas in bikinis under fire for calling customer a 'fat b****' and telling her to 'save world hunger by shooting yourself'

The owner of a ? coffee stand where baristas serve customers while wearing bikinis has angered local residents after she posted cruel comments on the business’ Facebook page about a customer’s size. The war of words between Meghan Calavan, who owns the self-styled ‘sexy sailor coffee shop’ Sips Ahoy, and Jesseka Cladek from Anacortes, Washington, has escalated out of control since just before Christmas. According to Meghan, the trouble started after someone – believed to be a friend or relative of Jesseka - posted a nasty comment on the stand's Facebook page. Jesseka says that Meghan responded by posting a series of ? and hateful comments referencing the women's weight and appearance.
Meghan also reportedly criticized Jesseka's appearance, calling her ‘fat,’ advising her to ‘save world hunger by shooting yourself’ and telling another commenter that ‘the world would be a better place if [Cladek] died.’ ‘What if I was unstable and actually did ? myself?’ Jesseka asked King5. ‘Words have an impact on people.’ The Sips Ahoy Facebook page has since been taken down, but another Facebook page, Boycott Sips Ahoy, has launched and quickly amassed 4,700 followers. Its stated aim is to put the coffee kiosk out of business and it has posted screen grabs of the original comments made by Meghan.
‘I've never had to be scared for my life or ever thought someone wish I were dead,’ wrote Jesseka on the Boycott Sips Ahoy page. Many posts call for the coffee shop's imminent closure, accusing it of cyberbullying. ‘I made this page to close Sips Ahoy down. We don't want this place of business in our small town,’ the administrator states in the About section of the new Facebook page. As news of the incident has spread in the small town of 16,000 people, Meghan and her family have become the target of threats and even violence.
She lives with her father, Kelly, and their home was recently egged and his vehicle dented. One poster on the Boycott Sips Ahoy page even suggested that someone should put ? or gasoline in a super soaker and burn the coffee stand down. Meghan told King5 that she and her staff are scared and that she is sorry for getting involved in the dispute.
'I stuck up for myself in an immature manner, I know,' she told King5.
Police say the dent in the Calavans' car means the incident could become a felony investigation. They have advised everyone involved to stop and take a deep breath before someone gets hurt. Meghan has said she is sorry for her part and claims she's learned an important lesson, while Jesseka has asked for everyone to stop the negative comments and actions.

Air Canada Refuses To Transfer Voucher To Wife Who Kept Her Name

It turns out not all Canadians are as progressive as they're made out to be! Air Canada is still stuck in the 1950s when it comes to women keeping their last names after they get married, and is feeling a huge Twitter backlash over it. Last night Calgary-based writer Chris Turner blasted the airline on Twitter after an Air Canada phone rep told him he couldn't transfer a voucher to his wife because she kept her last name when they got married. Air Canada responded by saying "vouchers can only be transferred to another family member before travel if they have the same family name" to prevent fraudulent activity when using vouchers.
Well, isn't that quaint. Turner's tweet ? off women and men alike and made the news in Canada. One would think that Air Canada would have a better, more sophisticated way to prevent voucher fraud (is that really such a widespread thing anyway?) on their flights than this. This policy makes them look rather foolish. P
No word yet on whether or not Air Canada intends to change the policy.

Analysts say that America's unemployment rate could soon drop by a full half point, representing many hundreds of thouands of people off the official unemployment rolls. It's all thanks to one neat policy trick.
That would be: Congress's decision to end federal unemployment benefits last week for anyone who's been out of work more than 26 weeks. This penurious act against our nation's most desperate citizens is a stunning success, statistically speaking! The Wall Street Journal reports:
By ending benefits for more than a million people, Congress will successfully sap their will and demoralize them enough to stop looking for work entirely—thereby lowering the official unemployment rate. The same effect could be achieved by shooting up the long-term unemployed with Thorazine, or chaining them in basements.The unemployment rate is the share of the total labor force that is out of work but actively seeking employment. To receive jobless benefits recipients need to keep applying for jobs. But once the government deposits stop flowing, they may be less motivated to look for work and thus drop out of the labor force.

Woman who binged on dozens of cookies a day on how a break-up motivated her to get healthy

A woman has revealed how she lost an incredible 172lbs in a healthy and gradual way after struggling with an entire lifetime of overeating. Andalusia, Alabama native Brooke Birmingham, 28, who weighed 327lbs at her heaviest, credits Weight Watchers, exercise and a good deal of patience for her body transformation, which took more than four years to accomplish. In June, she told blogger It Sux to Be Fat that a bad relationship inspired her to turn her life around. 'After I got rid of the guy, I decided I needed to start loving myself and deserved better,' she said. 'My mom invited me to a Weight Watcher meeting and it was exactly what I needed,' she explained.
Mrs Birmingham writes on her blog, Brookenotonadiet, that throughout her 'horrible' relationship she was so miserable that she would binge on more than two dozen cookies in less than 24 hours. 'Combine that with a breakdown in a dressing room surrounded in skinny jeans that wouldn’t fit, I needed a change,' she writes. Now, at 155lbs and happily married to her husband Zach, Mrs Birmingham works as a Weight Watchers leader and was featured on the cover of this month's Woman's Day magazine for her incredible transformation. Mrs Birmingham began her slim-down journey in 2009, cutting out junk food in favor of fruit, salad, yogurt and a mostly vegetarian diet.
Instead of joining a gym, she began doing exercise at home, watching work-out DVDs and three to five times a week. She also rode her bike up and down the Mississippi River and running outdoors, and even plans on completing the half-marathon portion of the Quad-City Marathon in September. In terms of diet, the former social services counselor begins her days with a hearty breakfast of oatmeal with a banana or eggs. For lunch she eats salad with leftovers from the previous night's dinner, and she snacks on yogurt, fruit and popcorn. Mrs Birmingham's mother Alys Bomia - who recently lost 53lbs herself after being inspired by her daughter - says it was emotional moment when Brooke finally reached her target weight.
'There were a lot of tears,' she said. 'We just cried and cried some more.' Today, Mrs Birmingham keeps a blog where she posts recipes, workout tips and inspiration for others trying to accomplish similar goals. She wrote on her blog that she's still in shock at how much she has managed to achieve. 'If you would have told 327lb Brooke that she'd be on the cover of a magazine, she would have laughed,' she said. 'I'm just a small town girl who decided one day to change my life and get healthy for myself. . . The whole thing seems surreal to me still and I get choked up when I think about it all.' To her readers, Mrs Birmingham advises patience and a realistic attitude when it comes to losing weight.
'I didn't drop the weight overnight, I didn't do it with a crazy fad diet,' she writes. 'I did it the real and healthy way, changing how I ate and moving more. 'I tell people all the time, if I can do it, anyone can. It takes hard work, but it is always worth it!'

Arsonist Set a ? Nightclub on Fire During a New Year's Party

An arsonist doused a carpeted stairwell in gasoline and lit it on fire shortly after midnight on New Year's Day as approximately 750 patrons celebrated the new year at Neighbours, one of Seattle's oldest ? clubs.
The crisis was averted by two soldiers — US Army Staff Sgt. Christopher Bostick and Air Force member Mike Casey — who fought the blaze until the club's sprinkler system was activated.
According to the Neighbours Nightclub Seattle Facebook page, Bostick, Casey, and bartender Lucas Shipley "located and grabbed a fire extinguisher and put the fire out in under 30 seconds."
The bar staff pulled the fire alarm immediately after they saw smoke, ensuring the sprinkler system was activated and letting everyone know that they had to vacate the premises. Within two minutes, everyone had exited the building and nobody was hurt.
Fire investigators found an empty gas can at the top of the stairwell, a move Bostick, a veteran of Iraq and Afghanistan, thinks was intentional.
"I think this person walked up the stairs with the can in their hand and poured it out as they walked. They set it down, went back down the stairs and lit it, with the intent to blow up the gas can," he told KTVU.
Seattle Fire Department spokesman Kyle Moore told the Seattle Times that the fire caused approximately $1,000 in damages and the sprinklers probably caused an additional $6,000. Still, the club was open for business by the next night.
Police have not announced any suspects, and a spokesperson said that the fire has yet to be classified as a hate crime. According to Neighbours, "More information will be made available when we are able to put out the information without the possibility of jeopardizing the investigation." -

Chatty Waitress Gets $6,000 Tip for Saying All the Right Things

Abigail Sailors nearly missed out on the tip of a lifetime because she's simply too damn happy. When two anonymous customers came into her ? Barrel in Lincoln, Nebraska, they asked the hostess to seat them in the section with the grumpiest server so they could make that server laugh. But the hostess informed them that none of the restaurant's servers were grumpy, so they were forced to settle for the happiest server instead. When they asked Abigail, 18, why exactly she was so happy, she gladly told them: Her life had been full of misery.
A car crash that occurred when she was still an infant incapacitated her mother and forced her and her four siblings to be placed in a foster home after their biological father was deemed an unfit parent. "All the horror stories you hear about foster care," Abigail's sister Sydnie told the Lincoln Journal Star, "we lived through it." After their foster father was imprisoned for abuse, Abigail and her siblings were split up by the state and remained apart until reuniting at a new foster home nine years ago. "It's a great home, great people, amazing," Abigail told the paper, referring to the home of her foster parents, John and Susi Sailors. "I don't know how I would have turned out if I didn't have them. They shaped the person I am today." It was exactly the misery that she endured as a child which made her the happy person she is today. "[My] life could be worse," she explained to the Journal Star. "But it isn't."
Once she was done unfurling her the story of her life so far before complete strangers, she moved on to talk of what's to come. Abigail was excited about having completed her first semester at North Dakota's Trinity Bible College, but was uncertain if she could continue attending due to a lack of funds. The mysterious patrons had heard enough: One of the two men, who was a Trinity alum, took out his checkbook and promptly wrote Abigail a tuition check for $5,000. He then wrote another $1,000 for supplies and necessities.
Then, at the end of the meal, he left behind an extra $100 tip, which Abigail shared with a fellow server. "I couldn't believe it," Sailors is quoted as saying. "I tried to thank them, and they said, 'Thank ? .'"

Girl, 11, stabs her sleeping mother nine times in the head, neck and shoulder as she was 'angry and frustrated'

An 11-year-old Texas girl was arrested over the weekend for stabbing her own mother nine times in the head, neck and shoulder as the woman slept. While the unnamed minor is currently in a juvenile center, 41-year-old Toshia Edmonson, a single mother of two, is in a serious but stable condition in a Dallas hospital. The girl told police she that she attacked her mother as she was 'so, so angry and frustrated with her.' Officers say she was upset that she had to be home at 11.45pm on Friday.
According to a police report, the girl said that Edmonson pushed her into a sofa and told her that she was going to 'give her away.' The girl then waited for her mother to go to sleep, got a knife from the kitchen, went to her bedroom and stabbed her nine times, as reported by CBS 11.
The report stated that Edmonson's other child, a younger boy, told police that his mother woke up screaming and shouting her daughter's name. Edmonson was eventually able to get the knife out of the 11-year-old's hand and fall on top of her to stop the attack, according to reports. The horrific incident happened at the Providence at Village Fair Apartments in Dallas.
The boy discovered both his mother and sister covered in blood and ran out into the hallway. A neighbor then called 911 at around 4.11am. 'It's family violence. A Chicago man has caught on video what could be the worst effect yet of the polar vortex: A burst pipe raining a storm of human waste through the ceiling of his advertising agency office. Kasey Moore, an advertising art director for Arc Worldwide, posted the stomach churning scene from the 15th floor of the Leo Burnett skyscraper Tuesday afternoon and the content is not suited for the faint of heart. It shows a sea of brown water filling up the office floor as more continues to gush down in a torrent onto the sprawling room’s desks and cubicles as horrified workers scramble to get out of the way. ‘So, this is happening on my floor at work,’ writes Moore on Instagram. ‘Poo eruption.’
It remained unclear from the video how widespread the leak was, but at over a million square feet, the 50-story tower can undoubtedly contain enough sewage to rain on a lot of employees’ parades. A spokesperson for the building officially denied that the brown liquid described by some as 'smelly' actually contained feces. 'While we appreciate the creativity, rest assured that it's only dust and water,' the spokesperson told Business Insider via e-mail. Moore’s appears to be the most vivid post yet of the ‘poo eruption,’ but some of his office mates have taken to social media to document the destruction as well. Instagram user bobbi12781 posted a photo of a distraught man fleeing a cascade of human waste, but gave an understated description of the putrid scene.
‘It's water from a busted pipe,’ she wrote. ‘Smelly water.’ ‘What better way to start off the new year,’ complained jenibreni beside her own photo of the leak. While the exact cause of the leak remained unclear Tuesday evening, hospitals in Boston, Washington, DC, and Cleveland have all reported pipe bursts caused by the freezing Polar Vortex temperatures. These unfortunate Chicagoans have not only experienced a sewage storm this week, but they’ve also had to endure some of the worst winter chills the historic polar vortex has to offer. Temperatures in the Windy City hit -15 degrees Monday evening and hovered around 10 degrees at their highest on Tuesday.
While the situation appears dire for the ad men and women of Arc Worldwide, commenter blipsman suggests on Moore’s video post that there could be a silver lining in all that sewage:

'Crazed' man bites off neighbor's EAR because he would not offer him a cigarette

A Florida man has had his ear partially bitten off by a neighbor for refusing to give him a cigarette, according to police. John Ott, of Boca Raton, said he was approached by Alberto Felipe Friday asking him for a smoke. Before he had a chance to realize what was happening, Ott said his crazed neighbor was tearing at his right ear with his teeth.
‘He comes up puts me in a bear hug and next thing I know he's biting my ear,’ he told the station WPEC-TV. Felipe, 31, chomped off a chunk of Ott's ear, which was left hanging by a thin strip of cartilage. The victim was rushed to an area hospital, where doctors were able to save the damaged ? with a few stitches. The Boca Raton resident has had several run-ins with the law in the past, including three arrests in Palm Beach County on assault and battery charges.
According to Ott, who resides on Jeffrey Street, his unruly neighbor continuously hurls threats at him from across the street. The mauled man now plans to file for a restraining order against his mouthy assailant.
