I'm talking about games that you just KNEW were gonna be the ultimate, AAA, no way they can possibly fail experiences for you.....that somehow still fell short. It can be based on your own personal interest and hype that you built up in your own head, or interest created by the media/word of mouth.

None of the below games are terrible. In fact, they are very solid/good games, but they could've been ALOT better. No, they SHOULD'VE been alot better.They were SUPPOSED to be. Here are mine.


Alan Wake
Bioshock 2
Bayonetta
Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2
Prototype
Soul Calibur 4

    Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 - so much disappointing after the first one
    Prototype
    GTAIV
    Mercenaries 2 - failed to live up to the expectations form part 1
    Naughty Bear - because of the hype leading up to it



    Good thread, you should make a spin-off for surprises of this gen too. There are a few that come to mind.

    Yea, pushed back Max Payne to concentrate on it. Been in production since 2004. Was supposed to be a launch title for the 360

    super mario galaxy was wack.all the hype for the game.bought it last year,only played it once and gave it to my nephew never to set eyes on that ? again.

    yea gta4 was great but it was a huge downgrade from san andreas

    and @t/s, i like soul calabur 4, why you aint like that ? ?

    Well, theres something you have to understand first. For me, SC4 was my XBOX 360 "system seller". It was the game that made me say "Okay, its time to get a 360". So my expectations were already way up there. I basically didn't like the online. I didn't want a RPG, I wanted a fighting game. And the gameplay was just stale to me. It was SCIII HD. But its an okay game I guess.

    Which makes me remember, add Def Jam ICON to my list. Hype or not, this game is actually trash. Never has a great franchise taken such a drastic dive.

    Bioshock 1 &2- i dont know, i couldnt get into either, i got bored real quick.
    Prototype-got old hella quick and the fact that you can max out on all powers hella early made it more easier and the leading the monster mission was dumb and tedious.
    GT4-? was dope but low as replay value. i even wasted MS points on the DLC that i got to bored with to play.
    Alan Wake-dope game it got repetitive real fast. but i will rent it agian or cop it for cheaper to finish it.

    Gotta disagree. I liked Rainbow 6 Vegas 2. And I'm not a fan of FPS'. But that game is a keeper for me.

    Damn, I'm playing Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 right now, and it's as fun as the first one (And the two X-Men Legends games) was/were.

    So what's the problem? The graphics? Characters? Fusions? Faithfulness to the Civil War Storyline?
