A robber was shot dead last week in San Francisco by his own partner. Only the scene didn't play out like one would expect.

Clifton Chatman, 16, was killed when his partner fired his gun at someone else, and the bullet deflected off their intended victim's face into him.

Chatman was involved in the street robbery of a man on his cell phone in the Bernal Heights neighborhood of San Francisco on Dec. 14 at around 11 p.m. The victim complied with all demands made by the robbers, yet one of them still pulled out a handgun and started shooting.

The details of Chatman's death came when officials announced the arrest of one of the alleged robbers on suspicion of murder and attempted robbery. The suspect is 16, and therefore his identity has not been made public. Police have not commented on whether they believe he is the individual who inadvertently shot Chatman.

The robbery victim was admitted to a hospital for treatment, and is expected to survive.

Police are still searching for the other males involved.
