Higher Learning is a 1995 American drama film, directed by John Singleton, and starring an ensemble cast. The film follows the changing lives of three incoming freshmen at the fictional Columbus University: Malik Williams (Omar Epps), a black track star who struggles with academics; Kristen Connor (Kristy Swanson), a shy and naive girl; and Remy (Michael Rapaport), a lonely and confused man seemingly out of place in his new environment.[1]
The film also featured Tyra Banks' first performance in a theatrical film. Laurence Fishburne won an NAACP Image Award for "Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Motion Picture"; Ice Cube was also nominated for the award. This was the last film appearance of Dedrick D. Gobert, who was shot dead in 1994 prior to the film's release. Gwyneth Paltrow appears briefly in the film as a student, the only time in her film career to date she has had an uncredited role.
The exterior shots and outdoor scenes were shot on the campus of University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) while the interiors were shot at Sony Pictures Studios.

Great film, one of my favs. Tho it kinda come off alil over the top, but John was tryin to stress a point. I liked how they followed different grenders, races and classes n not jus black folk, presented a wider picture.
Rapaport and Fishbourne (reminded me of my own father) killed their roles btw. But i couldnt help but lol when the lil snow flake got turned out.
Great drop......LCA fam, we need to more retro/throwback film threads like this. Shout out to the dude who made the Fallin Down thread awhile back

I agree wit every thing u said ..as for remy I kinda felt sorry him he was a dude who was just trying to fit in and his mind got corrupted
ive done a lot of throwback movie threads check'em out -
Yea, i actually liked Remy. I felt no ill will towards him as a character. He was jus lookin for a place to belong. But when he started shooting at the ppl in the crowd, i was "Ok! ? this ? !" Great character development tho.

Nice throwback. I remember seeing this at the theater with my lil girlfriend back in the day. ? was extra real because her name was Kristin like the white chick. It's still watchable now. Whenever I see cole hauser in other movies, I still think of him as the main skinhead.

Felt some type of way when Deja caught that bullet.

So, Mr. Williams thinks I am an Uncle Tom, hmmm? Well, well, well. What does that have to do with your ability to place a comma in its proper place or put a period at the end of a sentence, hmmm?
-
Malik Williams: Remy is it? Man, I gotta admit you've been really polite by staying out of my way. But you ain't been honest. See I figure, it's not what a person says it's what they think. So in my mind, you've been walking around here calling me a ? in you head. Am I right?
Remy: I got nothing to say to you man.
[Remy tries to close the door, Malik forces it open]
Malik Williams: Oh, I think you do! You want to say what you feel don't you? You think I'm a ? ? You be a man and call me one to my face!
[after a few moments of silence, Malik psyches Remy out]
Malik Williams: I thought so. You're just a punk-ass white boy... with a ? -up haircut. ? . -
Fudge: I want you to say, "I apologize, beautiful black woman, mother of the Earth, queen of the universe."
-
One beat-down will never compare to 439 years of captivity. Never.
You don't know ? , freshman. -
So many classic lines. To me, that movie pointed out (in the line by fudge somebody mentioned and in general) that small black victories don't negate the many L's that preceded them. In other words, stay disciplined.

when Cole Hauer admitted to.killing black people before it made me wanna murk him
-
Fudge: I want you to say, "I apologize, beautiful black woman, mother of the Earth, queen of the universe."
*when the campus security guards drove off*
Busta: Mad at me cuz they can't be me.
For some reason that line has always stuck out. Says a lot imo the feelings towards black folks. -
Random funny off handed funny line...
When Remy tried to dap white dude after he thought he ? the white girl. And white dude got mad n tried to fight Remy. Remy said "whats the problem man?" Then off camera white dude says "youre the problem ? !" lol -
Pretty good film
