Rugby vs NFL

You put a rugby player in a football uniform and line him up in the backfield or at linebacker how would he perform?
And vice versa
Take an NFL player and put him in a rugby match and what's the outcome?
Who do you think would have better success if a rugby player and an NFL player switched roles for one season?

First of all, there have been plenty of Rugby players in the NFL over the years...
...and 99% of them were punters or kickers.
I hear this "debate" all the time. Mostly from euros or white boys who can't play American football, but played rugby a couple time so they think it's better.
Two different sports to be honest. And before anybody says it -- miss us with the "Rugby players don't wear pads" nonsense.
The speed and impact of the hits in football and Ruby are totally different. That's like a Lance Armstrong calling a Nascar Driver a ? for having all that padding and safety equipment inside his car while all Armstrong has is a helmet.
Besides, every lil nikka you see in the NFL today grew up playing tackle football with no pads (sometimes in the streets/sidewalks) when he was a kid. And probably played it more like that than he did with pads.
With all that said, Australian Rules Football >>> Rugby. lol -

Actually had high hopes for Ebner, but he never did ? for us -
Rugby as a game is nothing but a series of punt returns

Thread has been made a million times. You have to be born into either sport; 99.99% of CS grew up on American Football (nothing wrong with that); however, this ? (rugby) is epic:

Comparing NFL (pads, protective clothing, air masks et al) to rugby is like comparing California apples to Florida oranges - totally mutually exclusive.
Real players know! -

Dudes in nuthuggers and polos. lol.
I have no problem with rugby. Some rugby fans love to talk down on the nfl, but its because rugby is all they grew upon.
But rugby players are in better condition i think than football players. But Football players are built specifically for their position. NFL= 100 yard dash. whereas rugby athletes are not as fast but better conditioned because its constant running.
You cant really compare the two. You ever see a nfl game with 5 seconds left and the team keeps doing laterals to try to score? I always seem to get that feeling when Im watching rugby.
But they both require alot of athleticism. It would be something to see mike vick or megatron on a rugby field. lol.
