Universal is reportedly poised to relaunch its library of classic monster movies under the creative direction of Alex Kurtzman and Chris Morgan.
According to Deadline, the studio is in the early stages of rebooting the classic movie franchises and -- in a similar way that Disney has done with the Marvel cinematic universe -- unifying them. Kurtzman, known for his work on Star Trek, Transformers, and The Amazing Spider-Man 2, and Morgan, who's written five of the Fast & Furious films, are spearheading the effort and in charge of the overall narrative.
This isn't exactly news in that we knew something like this was going on at Universal. Kurtzman's former movie writing partner Roberto Orci told us as much back in October of 2013 (watch the video chat above).
Kurtzman and Morgan are set to soon start recruiting Hollywood talent for the movie projects, though there's no word on whether the duo will write any of the screenplays. And while Universal has resurrected some of its monster franchises in the past, like Van Helsing, The Wolfman, and the upcoming Dracula Untold, this will be the first time the projects are unified instead of just standalone experiences.
The first part of the Universal classic monster relaunch will begin with The Mummy, which is slated to hit theaters April 22, 2016.

This would be dope if the monsters hadn't been a mainstay in the movies for years. But maybe putting them all the the same movieverse will add to it.

Smart, because that franchise has been pretty much disemboweled by Brendan Frasier. -

Would be ill if the Dracula untold story was the new iron man of that monster universe and setting up mummy, wolfman, frankenstein, and then an avengers style ? would be hilarious an cool.

i think rebooting the mummy and having dracula untold dracula in the same universe would be dope

Unless I'm reading it wrong, the Dracula movie isn't part of this reboot.

Yeah, hopefully the reboot is going with the same tone as this Dracula movie instead of the campy ? they've been doing.
