If You Didn't Play Basketball In High-school Could You Try Out In College? (How Does It Work?)

Alright, I never played Basketball in highschool. However, I think after I finish college I would want to try a university team. Do you have to have a scholarship only to try to join? Or do they have open tryouts? I just like playing Basketball for fun not try to make a career out of it. Tell me how it works.

Oh, because I searched one up in Washington state and it said they had walk ons. That's why I said nevermind and thanks when he told me the answer. -
