With "The Conjuring" spinoff "Annabelle" nearly beating "Gone Girl" for the box office crown this weekend, it's no surprise that studios are eagerly pushing low-budget, high-profit horror movies. And so Universal is following in the footsteps of Warner Bros. and keeping their scary series "The Purge" going.
Deadline reports that James DeMonaco has been hired back to write and possibly direct the third "The Purge" movie, and it's a not a shock. "The Purge" made $89 million worldwide, with the sequel, "The Purge: Anarchy," earning $108 million around the globe. Not too shabby. But the question for the third chapter is when? 'Anarchy' was rushed into theaters this year to capitalize on the success of the first movie, so we wouldn't be surprised if Universal wants this sooner rather than later. And it's not like the premise—on one day of the year, every awful, violent crime you can think of is legal in order to keep society in check or something—is that high concept either. We doubt "The Purge 3" will mess with the formula.
Anyway, it looks like we now have yet another horror franchise on our hands. Who says blockbusters just belong to superheroes these days?

The second one was better than the first. First was pretty bad, and I also went into the second one with the mindset that its probably gonna be a ? movie.

The sequel should have been the first movie.
The first one feels like a bad sequel. -
Just finished watching part 2. Leaps and bounds better than the first one. I'd watch a part 3.
