Will Smith‘s only role this year was a glorified cameo in Winter’s Tale, but he’ll be back next year with a much bigger part in Focus. Directed by Glenn Ficarra and John Requa (Crazy, Stupid, Love.), the “comedy-caper-love story” pairs him with Margot Robbie as two con artists with a complicated history. When they reunite a few years later, sparks fly once again.
Interestingly, Focus was originally set to star Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone, and then Ben Affleck and Kristen Stewart. So how do Smith and Robbie stack up against those other A-list duos? See for yourself with the first Focus images after the jump.
USA Today debuted the flirty pics below. (The header above is from The Wolf of Wall Street, not Focus.)
Smith plays Nicky, an experienced grifter who takes scrappy pickpocket Jess (Robbie) under his wing. They get too close for his comfort, and the relationship falls apart. When they meet again three years later, she’s evolved into the kind of seasoned con artist that could throw a wrench into his plans. According to Ficarra, the question at the heart of the story is: ”How do two people fall in love in a world where the truth is like currency?”
At this point, we haven’t even seen a teaser so it’s impossible to tell how this project will pan out. But the casting definitely sounds spot-on. Smith’s charisma makes him a natural fit to play a con artist. As for Robbie, Requa admits they initially struggled to cast a female lead who could hold her own against Smith’s strong personality. ”But Margot walked in and just put everybody on their heels,” he recalls. “When she walked out of the room, Will turned to us and said, ‘Mmhm.’”
Focus arrives in theaters February 27, 2015. Rodrigo Santoro also stars.

My money is on Margot Robbie's character conning Will Smith's character at the end... or is that too obvious?

Everyone does at some point (Eddie Murphy, Tom Cruise, Nic Cage.. .)
The trailer doesn't look to enticing and I read quite a number of actors turned down this film for whatever reason..
But I'll see it somehow I guess -
It might not be that bad, Imma get it on redbox and be hopeful
-
I'll wait for the dvd

Looks like a hitch 2 to me.

Didn't Kristen Stewart back out once Will was on board? She so ? wack. She haven't done a good movie since Panic Room.

? is a stale boring actress to me ... especially in snow white
Will Smith appears to be officially locked into his next project (after this summer’s After Earth, starring his son Jaden Smith); when we last reported on it, he was said to be “in talks” to star in Warner Bros’ con-man film Focus, which previously had Ben Affleck as the top choice to play the role that Will Smith will now play. Affleck had to drop out as other commitments got in the way.
Also, when Affleck was the man for the job, Kristen Stewart was to star opposite him, playing his co-conspirator, as well as love interest, but she left the project when Smith jumped on-board, citing, according to Variety, an age gap between the two of them that was too wide (Will is 44, Stewart is 23). Although, that apparently wasn’t too much of a problem for her, when Ben Affleck, who’s not that much younger than Smith, was the candidate for the role. Affleck is 40.

This Robbie chick >>> Stewart

Dude needs to stick to the action/sci fi genre. That's where he was killing it. This will flop.
-
Nah he needs to switch it up. He been fighting aliens and robots and CGI creatures for almost 20 years. I welcome this break.
I'll support it. -
I'll give it a go, this comes off like Hitch meets Mike Lowry. Plus Margot is a fine piece of a krimpet

I didn't even know she was in Panic Room, that was just some random white girl.
Side note
Smash both Margot Robbie and Kristian Stewerts dull ass -
