The only surviving female rhino in a South African game reserve has been killed for its highly valuable horn.

This is the latest in poaching activities that are set to make rhinos extinct in the country. Wildlife advocates in the country are now pushing for urgent regulations against poachers after the female rhino bled to death when it’s horn was cut off.

Rhino poaching has now reached record levels in the country according to wildlife experts. 129 rhinos were poached in the country last year because of their horns, but the number has risen to 136 already this year.

The rhino was sedated with tranquilizers by the poaching gang. Investigation into the poaching activities in the country have now been shifted to the law enforcement agencies according to Wanda Mkutshulwa, spokesman for the South African National Parks. “We are dealing with very focused criminals. Police need to help game reserves because they are not at all equipped to handle crime on such an organised level,” she said.

In the past week, 5 poachers have been arrested in the Kruger Park for the possession of AK-47 assault rifles and blood stained rhino horns. Rhino horns are made up of keratin fiber and used mainly for traditional medicine in many Asian countries.

if you click the link there's a pic of the Rhino just laying there in a pool of blood. the rampant poaching in Africa makes me mad. what's up with the poaching that goes on there? the natural wild life there is amazing, why don't people respect it?

Poaching for who? And buying from whom?

It's Black people killing each other over diamonds, for who?

If you knew the dynamics of the South African and African economy you wouldn't have to ask that question.

money talks, as long as there are people willing to pay lots of money for the horns, other people will keep killing the animals to get them

Mother nature won't tolerate this. Don't worry. The chickens are soon coming home to roost. It will all be over soon enough. Devils think they can be un-natural in a natural existence and live to tell about it.... we'll see.

Way to bring race in a conversation where it doesnt belong.

I've always thought if you catch a poacher, ? him the same way he did the animal. I don't stand for animal abuse or poaching, poaching really makes me mad. I've seen documentaries in the black market for animal trade and stuff, really really really weighs on you because it's so sad and makes you so angry. I'd just line up all poachers and do what they did.

if you read the thread a poster brought up white people first and then later another poster defended it further trying to blame white people for the actions of black poachers with no kind of reasoning. it ain't a racial issue but you're barking up the wrong tree

The only reason the horn is so valuable is because STUPID ? can't get it up in the bedroom and they want some ? placebo "traditional" "cure" instead of something that actually works, like Cialis.

in fairness, in this case, as he said, the article implies that Asians are funding this particular obsession
