Is American Materialism the catalyst?

For the majority of social prollems we have in this country. Oppression of the lower/middle class(middle moreso than lower, but that's a different topic), race relations, corruption in our political system, etc.

You got people out here killing their spouse for the life insurance money on a daily basis, Corporations exploiting their employees and all kinna ? . I chalk it up to American greed and everyone in this country tryna get over on the next person. Not saying the U.S. is the only country suffering from this but we leading the way, and that is the reason our empire is disintegrating

Its the selfishness of most people, which in turn feeds into materialism, oppression, etc.

If you only look out for yourself, how can you build a stable family? If you only look out for your family and say ? the others, how can you build a solid community? If you only look out for your hood/community, how can you build a proper city? It goes on like that.

Even when most people go out to do good by higher organizations, its usually only the ones that will benefit themselves when things trickle down. No one ever wants to sacrifice for the sake of the next person (stranger), so you end up with a bunch of cutthroat tactics that most people can't build/maintain with.

Being self-centered factors in again with closed mindedness and an unwillingness to compromise, particularly for the part you mentioned about race (and culture as well.) People almost always assume the way they do things is the one and only right way.
