Comedy Central has picked up Why? With Hannibal Buress as a weekly, half-hour series with an eight-episode order.

Executive produced by Buress, Jeff Stilson (Da Ali G Show) and 3 Arts’ Dave Becky, in Why? With Hannibal Buress, the comedian will provide his perspective on each week’s zeitgeist-driven topic, answering the burning questions on his mind through stand-up, filmed segments, man-on-the-street interviews and in-studio guests. To stay topical, each episode will be shot in front of a studio audience, taping the same week it airs.

The project is believed to stem from a development deal Buress inked with Comedy Central in 2013, which included a pilot commitment, a one-hour stand-up special; a nationwide Comedy Central Live stand-up tour; and a role Broad City.

Buress is a series regular on Comedy Central’s Broad City, and his latest special, Hannibal Buress Live from Chicago, premiered on the network in May to strong ratings. Additionally, Buress serves as a roaster on Comedy Central’s upcoming roast of Justin Bieber. The comedian also co-hosts Adult Swim’s The Eric Andre Show, currently in its third season, and was seen in the 2014 hit feature Neighbors. He made headlines last fall when his comments about Bill Cosby in a standup performance went viral, triggering an avalanche of sexual assault accusation by women against the sitcom star.

WME-repped Buress has written for NBC’s Saturday Night Live as well as 30 Rock, where he also appeared on camera.
