Network greenlights six episodes of the untitled autobiographical sitcom

NBC ordered its first comedy of the season on Tuesday.

The network greenlit six episodes of Jerrod Carmichael‘s untitled multi-camera sitcom, an autobiographical series inspired by the actor and stand-up comedian’s real life relationships. Supporting characters on the show include Carmichael’s contrarian father (David Alan Grier), therapist-in training girlfriend (Amber West), ever-hustling brother (Lil Rel Howery) and religious mother (Loretta Devine).

Carmichael and his “Neighbors” director Nick Stoller wrote the pilot for the series, which was directed by Mark Cendrowski and previously titled “Go Jerrod Go.”

Carmichael, who also provides voice work for the FXX animated series “Lucas Bros. Moving Co.,” is executive producing the project with Stoller and Ravi Nandan (“Animal Practice,” USA’s “Playing House”).

Universal Television is producing.

“We’re excited to be going forward to series with Jerrod. We can’t wait to see how he and his outstanding cast deliver the funny,” NBC Entertainment President Jennifer Salke told TheWrap in a statement.

Other NBC comedy pilots still awaiting the green-light include an untitled Monica Potter project, “Cuckoo,” “Strange Calls” and “Take it From Us,” to name a few.
